Poker Tournament Reply with quote
We are looking into the actual bar as a place to hold a 64 person poker tourney Saturday night.

We are trying to get the hotel to turn off the music, or make it ambient at least for that time....

Or you could try not having it at the bar so people 18 to 20.999 could participate? Or see if they'll allow 18-20.999 year olds in with badges that explicitly say they aren't allowed to drink??

the only way that could happen is if they closed the bar down. Its a federal law not to have minors in a bar while they are serving... Before I was 21, I had to wait for the bar to close so I could go in and watch the TV's while I was waiting for my wife to get off work. Also, I don't believe that the poker turney was age restricted. We are not playing for money, just a gpu. The only reason I have paid for one in the pass was to pay for the use of one of the ballrooms.

So having it in the bar will be restricted to only 21 and older; unless matt can sweet talk them into closing it, but then the ones that are 21 and old can't drink.... yay catch 22's

While I understand it sux to be under 21 sometimes, if it was 18+ then the 16-17.99 yr olds would ask to be changed. 21+ is the goal on this Poker tournament.

Even though I won't be able to play this time, thank you for doing this every once and a while.

Is the tournament men only also?
If you guys want to get loaded and play poker, cool, but go to vegas.

That makes no sense to have an age restriction, when after all this is a LAN... The only reason to have it in the the bar would be to encourage drinking, I don't think we need that at the LAN, but go ahead.

Maybe the bar is the only available space? People don't need to drink and play poker...

On a side note, can you smoke cigars in the bar?

as I cant speak for thos who set it up, there is more then one reason to put it in the bar.

We wont have to pay for a room for a few hours or how ever long it takes. (it would come out of the players pocket, not the lans)

A bar is where poker is held, like it is every thus thus and friday night where my wife works.

This is my opinion, I feel it would be better not to have younger players as some seems to not know the rules and it holds up the whole thing.

This is just one small thing among the rest of the events that is age restricted. Also, the poker turney was the same time as the scav hunt last time there was on. so think of it this way, poker for the adults and the hunt for the rest.

Like I said, this is just my opinion and trying to shed some light of the situation.

No, as of january 1 2009, there is no smoking inside any public buildings in the state of Oregon. The same law was passed in 07 or 08 for Washington.

But there will most likely be smoke breaks ever 30 min or so.

(sorry double post, saw it after I posted)

Actually Oregon does allow Cigar smoking in bars still but they have to have a special permit: http://www.oregon.gov/DHS/ph/s.....tion.shtml

I doubt the hotel bar qualifies or has done the paperwork though...

Which still goes back to my original post. This is a LAN, not a poker tournament. We're talking what atleast 300 people?

say theres even 10 people at a table, thats 30 tables, 30 decks, and 300 nerds away from the LAN. I hope you hired some kindercare for the rest of us that will be LANning. If you want to play everyone gets 1 chip, then ok, that'll be quicker. But please tell me how you guys plan to organize a poker tournament, oh and I also guarantee you that there will be at least 75 more people drunk after that.

I'm glad you could read 64 in the first post...64 people max, not 300.
