A good alternative to server racks for your home Reply with quote
http://wiki.eth-0.nl/index.php/LackRack

Rackmount your servers, switches, whatever you own that fits in an 19 inch rack and voila.. somehwhere you can store a server or servers.. Makes me wish i had a rackmount server not one in a desktop case Sad

They come in a variety of colors and are only 8 bucks now @ IKEA..

I'm enjoying the small museum in that picture. Nice disk pack!

N00b!

That, if I'm not mistaken (the picture only shows part of it) is a disk pack for a mainframe computer. It doesn't look like an 8-platter pack, so it might only be one or two. Actually, there are electronics attached to it, so it might be a "small" drive with a non-removable platter...so I already stand corrected. Likely for one of those "small" mainframes.

I'm betting that beauty might be a FULL megabyte in storage size (one platter?). Bah, you don't need more than that...you'll NEVER fill it!

It's been a long while, and it sure is pretty.

I LOVE the "laptop" too!

...and you're right, DB: TRUE computer nerd. None of these snotty-nosed wannabees you see nowadays. Wink

Ahh yesss...the good old days before my "spirit walk"...it was all over for a while after that. Mr. Green

How do servers weather the summer up there in a garage? Down here the temps get over 100 and my garage is not temperature controlled or insulated so I don't think I would want to do that.

My garage gets pretty hot as well, probably not 100, I have large industrial server rack fans on mine. It survived one season, things that concern me are moisture from the cars in the winter. This is my first winter with the racks in the garage, Nothings popped yet so i'm fairing pretty well.

My garage server didn't do too bad last summer when we had a few weeks of SUPER FING HOT weather.

Just sat out on the garage, e6600 in a Stacker STC-T01 with 9 drives... the CPU was idling in the low 60's at it's hottest then...

Our place is in Aloha off of TV hwy.
