| Halo 2 Maps, Update and Halo 3 Beta Oh My! |
|
That’s right ladies and gents, the new Halo 2 Maps and Auto-Update are all either on consoles now or coming in the near future. Today, Halo 2 was patched to version 1.5 (Odd, considering the last update was 1.1) and came with a load of surprises. For one, many Xbox users will have difficulty or be unable to play Halo 2 until the network effectively resets itself after updating. This has lead to many shaky matchmaking fiascos along with some people (including myself) being shut-out of games because the maps fail to load. This is a result of having the map caches completely erased after patching. However, with all of this strife there is a light at the end of the tunnel. The patch has laid the ground work for the two new maps, Desolation and Tombstone which will be released April 17th. The update also reset all online ranks (kiss your standbyed 50 goodbye ) and has increased security measures to prevent cheating. It seems like Halo 2 fans will also receive the benefit of improved cross-console play by the time H2: Vista hits shelves.
As for the Halo 3 Beta, the release date has been set for May 16th. Many people are more ready then ever to download the game after the recent Halo 3 Multiplayer Vidoc. It provided detailed incite on game play and also revealed many new features (including the function of the x button) like a shield grenade and trip mine. Overall this Spring is shaping up to be a Halo bonanza of epic proportions. I can only hope that Bungie's final product can meet or exceed the bar that they themselves set so high.

Good find! Halo 3 has even caught my eye, and I've been relativly uncaptured by the series' multiplayer offerings outside of co-op so far.
Single player has always been a blast (Co-Op included in that).

Thanks, and yeah Single Player, especially co-op like you mentioned will likely be as exceptional as usual.
P.S. I wrote it silly .

Honestly my only loathing is using a controller. Keyboard and Mouse is so deeply entrenched in my brain. 360 and PS3 both are supposed to start having mouse/kb support though

You'll get your chance when Halo 2: Vista ships. The game will let you play against Xbox users on your computer (Which in my opinion gives you an advantage because of the keyboard and mouse ).

IDK.. I know they said it would.. but I've heard reports that shadowrun will be the first cross-platform game.
I really hope that they didn't take cross-platform gaming support out of Halo 2 Vista

Yeah, after posting that I have been hearing the same things. I suppose it makes sense considering how old Halo 2 is, but you never know. I'm really excited over achievements for Halo 2, and the new maps are pretty cool. Desolation is essentially a much larger Warlock without the 4 outside platforms. Its even big enough to drive a warthog around on . Tombstone looks like its straight out of Gears of War and is set in a large rock quarry.

IMO Desolation is a garbage map. i played the original one called Derelict on Halo PC. I was in a top ranked clan.
As for Tombstone, i am very pleased with it. ive had to play the CS:S Hang 'Em High map over and over, and now i can finally play it on halo 2, as Tombstone.

I agree. Desolation seems a little underdeveloped. The lack of decorators bugs me. Plus, its design lends itself to it being small yet it is huge .
I agree with you about Tombstone. I didnt know it was a CS:S map though, thats pretty cool .

yeah they basically they spent no time on desolation. and by getting rid of the teleports and putting in lifts you can tell they were in a Halo 3 mindset. If you have seen the Halo 3 Multiplayer ViDOC, you will know that they took out teleporters and now use mancannons and grav lifts instead.
so since my xbox 360 is here and turned on. and none of my friends are on. i think im gonna go add everyone from the GamerTag directory.

It wasnt Bungie that made the new maps, Certain Affinity made them. They may have been in the Halo 3 mindset though, so I suppose you are right.
The man cannon should be cool, and it looks like asside from the new bubble shield and mines, there will also be deployable grav lift.
