what about trades for LAN prizes? Reply with quote
I have always held very strict rules myself from sponsor stuff (never sell, always give away or trade) to LAN prizes (never sell, always give BACK/away/trade). I have given extra Logitech speakers to friends, I recently gave a PDXer a G-27 racing wheel, returned GPUs back to the raffle, passed on CPUs when I already had the same one (back in the EE version days), etc.

Looking towards my next build, I am considering moving away from a CPU that was won at PDX raffle.

On one hand, trades are like giving new life to each sponsor by placing the product into the hands of someone prepared to use it.

On the other hand, a trade for like $ product isn't much different than selling for $ and buying what you want with the dough.
I clearly understand the "For Sale" rules...I imagine they extend to "For Trade" as well?

I might just sell my i920 instead since I paid for that: it wasn't a sponsor or prize...

will PM you. My idea is to move the 980X, use the 920 until my build is done, then move the 920 Wink

Yep, first gen I posted didn't have the side panels and some other stuff didn't align up.

My 'finished' version was @ SSL.

is it ok to trade LAN prizes or is that counter to sponsor goals?

What is the response to this? I won a 6870 this weekend, but want/need and equivalent Nvidia based card instead.

I think it is fine to sell something if you are not gouging the buyer. "Pay your good fortune forward" in a way.

Personally it's better to say "I am selling this because I need another type of part" rather than "I am selling this because I want their competition" -- but that's just me...

I personally think we should make every effort to keep said prizes within the PDXLAN family and that said recipient of the prize (meaning final recipient regardless of it you bought it or traded for it) should make a work-log or post of the product in use giving thanks to the sponsor. Selling on Ebay or Craigslist should either be a last resort or frowned upon entirely.

Very good point. The only reason that I want to go with the competition is because I have that shiny new 3D monitor that I want to use it with. Otherwise I'm perfectly fine with either brand. Smile
