I know this has been gone over multiple times but I want to make for absolute positive, if I am running an 850 watt power supply but only using 300-400 watts I should be ok for the lan is that right???

Yes this has been coverd over and over and over and over.
NO one checks PSUs at check in nor do they go around and check.
If your table trips the breaker over and over then staff will likely be checking PSUs to see who is causing the problems.

How did you go about figuring this sir?
>.>
Anyway, I got the meter because the Kill A Watt piece of crap I got at Fry's died after about 10 seconds of use. Beyond that, the readings I was getting were pretty inaccurate in the end.
The issue we had going at the time, was we kept popping a breaker in the computer room (15A breaker). So I wanted to measure everything in the room, got the nice clamp meter. 120v is known and if you know how many amps your computer uses @ full load, you'll be able to figure wattage from that.
In the end, we came to find out that the computer room's circuit was tapped off a circuit in the basement. >.< Lazy electricians.. >.<
Edit : Oh, and we have seats.

I did not go to all that by getting a kill a watt or anything like that but went to one of those power supply calculator websites that asks EVERYTHING in your computer and gives you an estimate so it may be a little higher or lower but still not near the 650w max

I think I'll bring my meter just so people can play with it, and do the maths. I've never trusted those online "calculator" things. Too many variables.

How did you find that they were inaccurate?

Clamp style meters are nice but you need to clamp just the hot leg of the circuit to get a good reading. I've used kill a watts along with professional fluke meters and never had any bad reading with a kill a watt.

The bagger leader has spoken. It is so.
