Well it made it to the LAN and back. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who stopped by my seat to check out the TRON case. I'm sorry it wasn't in the best condition due to shipping to & from Taiwan a few weeks ago (things were cracked, falling off, or hanging out of windows, it was quite embarrassing Embarassed), and I just didn't have time to get it back to 100% before the lan. Maybe some of the problems weren't really noticeable, but to me they sure stuck out like a sore thumb. But if some of you did notice, I appreciate your politeness in not saying anything. Smile

It was great chatting with you all, and I hope to bring something in a little bit better condition next time!

Doesn't matter about the little things. That thing is amazing. Creativity like that only exists in very few people. I want to see Trident back at the next one! Smile

Dude it was awesome! Even if it would have been cracked in half it would still be awesome.

That is really risky shipping out something like that to people who didn't pour their heart and soul into it. You are probably lucky you got it back at all.

Don't sweat the small stuff and don't be embarrassed. It is clearly one of the coolest things evar! Cool

Ok, now that PAX is over and done with, I can get caught up on my worklog updates. After PDXLAN, I had some time to wrap up the monitor mod. So I disassembled it and got it ready for paint.

Once cleaned up, I shoved some weather-stripping into the cutouts to keep paint from getting in there.

I had some thicker stuff to use for the cut out lettering on top.

Taped off the buttons at the bottom...

...and it's ready for primer.

Once again, using white primer under black paint to help the light travel through the acrylic.

While the paint was drying, I started working on the edge lighting. For this I'm using more blue led strips and 1/4" C-channel to cover them up.

I cut the led strips to length and taped them to the edge with electrical tape.

Then I slipped the C-channel over the led strips and screwed them into place.

Hooked the lights up to my spare psu to see how the cutouts light up:

Closeup of one side:

Once I confirmed the lights worked, I disassembled the edges and painted the C-channel to match, and hard-wired the lights to the monitor's circuit board. Unfortunately, the voltage source I tapped into was only 7 volts, so the lights are quite dim as a result. I will have to run a line out from the psu over to the monitor to get the needed 12v. I will also have to add an extra strip up by the TRON lettering, as the edge lighting falls off well before getting to the middle.

Regardless, here are a couple shots of everything together on the desk:

Thought I would also throw in a couple pics from PAX this last weekend. I didn't make it into the BYOC, but EVGA was kind enough to provide some table space for TRON at their booth. Smile

It drew quite the crowd, as well as Quorra, who wanted to take the lightcycle and ride it off the grid. I had to convince her it was just a PC.

Looking good! You bring modding to a whole different level. Wish I had half the talent you have.

I went to the EVGA booth on Sunday to see you and you were already packed up and gone Sad

I was up in the BYOC. You didn't miss much. About half the seats were laptops and not very many mods. They picked a scratch build looking thing as the winner. If you would of had Tron there you would of probably won.

Thanks Elmy. Sorry I missed ya, but I had a 11-hr drive ahead of me and needed to get out of there first thing Sunday morning before the crowd.

I did manage to make it up to the BYOC before I left and talked to the eventual winner, monkeyfun. His Cygnar Storm Strider was pretty awesome and deserved the win. You can check out his worklog over on Modders Inc. Almost every part was custom sand-casted aluminum. Quite impressive. Smile

Thanks dude! I finally made it over to the Asus booth Saturday around noon but you weren't around. You'd think three days would be plenty of time to go find all the people you want to see and hang out, but not at PAX lol.

Congrats on winning the MOD contest at GeForce LAN. It was about time ( my opinion ) that it won. Should of won in July too ( my opinion once again ).

The ingenuity that went into that build was amazing.

What do you got next? LoL

My new case will be here in the beginning of Dec sometime. Just went into production and won't be available till Nov 22.

But I'm not telling anyone what it is ... LOL ... Going to try to have it done in Feb but will be done for sure in July. Smile

Hmmmm . . . . I have a case in my office that is not available until the end of November. Could it be the same thing? I am supposed to keep it quiet and so far I have. Hmmm

So Bod won with the Tron bike? Or? Awesome!

Congrats! When you were announced the winner I asked Rod if this was the first actual Tron win; I was kind of surprised that it hadn't won already.

Thanks guys!

What do I got next? I'm actually participating in Thermaltake's Level 10GT mod contest that Bob alluded to in another thread. Also embarking on a special project with raptr.com (will be posting a worklog on that very soon!) So I've been keeping busy too. Smile

Well, outside of the Cooler Master contest, it is. It wasn't really back to 100% for PDX 18, and it wasn't in the BYOC at PAX.
