PDXLAN Food Drive Information! Reply with quote
PDXLAN November is underway! This November PDXLAN is planning an epic LAN Party that not only will rock your socks off, but it will give back to the the Portland Area. That's right - Charity! Charity will be how you win even more at PDXLAN! Over 70% of the prizes will be in the Charity food drive raffle. The other 30% will be given in various contests and the normal raffle.

How to win MORE at PDXLAN's November event:

PDXLAN will again be hosting its annual food drive for the Union Gospel Mission in Portland Oregon. We have chosen this charity due to it's serious commitment to making lasting changes in peoples lives.

How it works: PDXLAN collects items and awards tickets based on the weight of the items. The tickets you earn are the raffle tickets for the PDXLAN Charity raffle. The more you give, the more you win. To win even MORE, do your own food drive at work, collect from your family, friends, and neighbors. You can also ask local grocery stores for dented cans as an idea. If you collect 100 pounds of food, then you are the one that gets to bring it to PDXLAN and trade it for tickets. The harder you work to get more food, the more tickets you get in return. If you are not the outgoing extroverted type to run your own collection, you can always go to Costco, Winco, or other places and buy food to give.

The first year PDXLAN did this we raised 5,500 pounds. The second year we raised 8,700 pounds. This year with your help we will raise over 10,000 pounds of food. (Note: This year please bring items in a sturdy box so that we can better stack the food!)

So what is the conversion rate of food to tickets? We will be trading 1 ticket for every 5lbs of the items below.

Needed Items:

Canned food, fruits and vegetables
Boxed food, cereals, and rice
Fresh fruit and produce
Coffee
Paper plates, bowls, and cups

Fresh fruit and produce? Really? Won't it be bad before they get it?

I'd shy away from that stuff. (Just because 500 of you bringing it would be bad)

Ask neighbors, friends, local grocery stores for dented canned goods etc. Also you can go to Costco or United Grocers

Wait grocery stores will give you cans just because they are dented?! (look at my avatar and picture him saying that Razz)

Thanks for the ideas! Very Happy

That's how it was at the last lan I went to with the food drive, once you walk in the door it was to the right where the tables usually are, and then registration tables are on the left

so from the FB for pdxlan this update came up

Quote:
We will do donations on Saturday, do NOT bring it to registration - we don't want to slow down that process.

Great idea. This way I can load the stuff in my car on Saturday morning and cart it to the LAN.
