Would anyone be interested in another server? I've hosted one for over a year now on an old Dell in my garage that does nothing other than minecraft and mumble. I am going to seed a new world today based off of the same seed we've been using for a while now that generates a lot of neat terrains and caves.

Connection is a 22/5 Comcast
Computer is a dual core with 2GB RAM

Should be able to host a decent group.

since bukkit has yet to be updated to 1.8 you wont see myself of rabidcrab anytime soon. bukkit is essential for the operation of our mods.

on that note for people who would like to be involved with it rabidcrab is working on finishing up a live server transfer mod, allowing average people to hop across servers with all the items and gear they have to another friends server (if they both run our setup) i will be posting a zip file with tutorial as how to install bukkit and operate the mod when its done

I'll go ahead and post my server information. Would be fun to have more people on there. Rules are simple:

There are TWO areas, When you first log in you will see a red mushroom and a sign next to it. The hole by the sign takes you to a Nether portal with a path to the Creative Mode/cheating area. The torch-lit path will take you in the direction that me and some friends are surviving at. You'll see an pretty torn up abandoned village that we've been using for our starting point.

Creative Mode Area: "Creative Mode" that was added in 1.8. I don't know if you need to have special permissions for it, but to enable creative mode you type "/gamemode <yourname> 1" (or 0 to disable). Please only use this mode in this area. Do not alter, destroy or build on other people's stuff.

Survival Mode Area: Basically, you just survive here. The only rules are don't alter, destroy, or build on other people's things. Don't start forest fires or grief. Don't rob people's chests. Don't "cheat" by summoning stuff... I don't think you will be able to right away without being made OP, but yeah Razz

Hopefully I'll get some more RAM eventually so I can better run two separate servers for survival and creative mode.

Also let me add on, I don't want to steal thunder from Crazynomad's server. What type of game are you running? If you're doing all creative mode I could always do strict-survival. Let me know!

zlog, 1.8 has killed any mods i was running so it is a classic smp server. I like smp over creative because i feel your buildings/towns should have a purpose rather then just looks, it makes it all the more rewarding. I will not host a creative mode server in the future just because it feels to much like alpha.

On another note, 1.8 is blowing my mind and to hear 1.9 is just around the corner has me very excited for more updates and a stable verson for modding. The game is surpassing anything i expected from it, the seeds are getting more complex, the maps are looking better and better, survival is more challenging (creepers still suck) and there are more blocks and craftable items!

This is a great time for everyone to start playing minecraft if you haven't tried the game yet, or if you felt it was lacking.

Soon to be the worlds best RPG!

So true. I noticed that my system seems to warm surprisingly warm for whats being rendered with Minecraft.

Totally worth it, though.

@CrazyNomad - Sounds good. Do you run the server on a dedibox that isn't likely to be shut down any time soon? What I mean is, I've got a box that I never turn off that just does mumble, minecraft, and a couple other light tasks. I can't see any reason for me to stop running the Minecraft server on it. If you see yours staying up for a good while I might see if my buddies want to use yours for Survival and mine for Creative.

Have you managed to get Bukkit reinstalled? It and Worldedit can be "coerced" into working with 1.8.
