That is typical for such installations at places of business...well, in a normal long-term situation you pay a LOT more than $100 for a coin-op machine to be placed (along with a maintenence contract) and then you get a small percentage of the "take".
In this case (being on the outside and guessing) I think they either didn't understand that they needed to make an alternate agreement/contract or felt that they were already giving PDXLAN a discount compared to a nornal installation. The thing is here, they should not be comparing to a normal installation since it is not-for-profit - based and very temporary.
Then again, maybe they truly just didn't feel like moving the machines back and forth was worth the effort (more likely).

That sux.
As a previous owner of a personal collection of arcade games, I can add this -
Anytime you move them you are risking something going wrong. Whether a monitor gives, electronics get bounced off their perch, or you bang it into something, or flat out drop it off the back of the truck.
These things seem like they would be pretty solid but they aren't. They even give out just sitting there for some reason! And if you ever saw the way they get treated by some people you would never allow them to be touched at all. I've seen people kick them, punch them, spit on them, etc.
I got tired of working on mine so I sold them all. They were great though....
So anyway I can almost bet that they didn't want to risk it and were going to charge extra for the "just in case something happens" part of the deal.
It's too bad because it would have been awesome.

^ Good point. I forgot that in most cases, the last time parts were made for stand-ups/cocktails was 25+ years ago. Damn you consoles!!
Maybe eventually a couple folks could bring in MAME stand-ups or something.

*Sigh*...I hope these parts are as easy to find when I get enough room to build one. Of course, I'm dangerous with power tools too.

Anyone considered groundkontrol or whoever worked with the pdx retro gaming expo? I wonder if they would be into doing this. Not for this event obviously, but a future one.

.5's are the ones we'd have to do these at - there just isn't much room otherwise....
Unless the whole lobby was an arcade...

Knowing Vector as I do, I think he's probably more upset with promoting this to all of us, then having to take it away. He and Dem do these events for us. The last thing he wants to do is let us down (which he is not).
Although I know he cares about the relationship potentially built with that vendor, I think he's more concerned with all of us in the community.
However, I could be wrong...

I don't feel let down by Vector at all. I blame Midget. Just kidding bud. It didn't work out, things like this happen.

No, Vec did his best to go above and beyond what he needed to do by trying to bring some arcade's in. If the opportunity cost of the vendors was too high, it is nothing on Vec.

This does kind of suck, was looking forward to getting my arcade fix.
Not vectors fault at all. Just a vendor that may not understand whats going on, or is worried about breakage while moving the machines.

The other thing that I hadn't considered is that there may need to be permits to have the machines there. Not sure, but it may be covered by the LAN event anyway. Was looking forward to it, but I'll survive!
