And I just got another beta invite!!!

YAY! This means I did a good job submitting issues found in the game. That was the criteria for a return to the beta testing! Just doing my part to make sure we all have a good time when the game finally comes out.

This time I am going to focus, on either the trooper or smuggler storyline.

post some screens when u get a chance please

Sure.

This latest beta that everyone got in to, didn't even have the high rez textures, the client download was only like 15-20 GB, where closed beta players have 36+ GB folders, a lot of those are the higher resolution textures. From what I have seen the textures make a HUGE difference in how the game looks. 16x AF 4xAA and high rez textures, this game looks simply awesome.

NOT worth $249.... I would maybe spend $100 on this.

It's expensive because of the touchscreen it has on it.

So far this beta, textures are exactly the same. 20GB install. I will get some 2560x1600 screen shots up later tonight.

Not gonna post the pictures here, as 2560x1600 wont show well in a browser.

Never in a million years. Any self-respecting gamer knows that you can't do anything outside of a game's menu system with a track pad.

I wish they had a version of this keyboard that didn't have the screen. It would save us about $75-100.

Pretty keyboard though...

I have to agree with DB, trolling or not, that OLD-SWG (before they changed the entire game's dynamics) was better.

There still isn't an MMO out there that lets you build your own guild city, and decorate structures with anything you find, and play your character however you want.... It was almost Minecraft in terms of do what you want/go where you want.

Also, RE: Textures...

The current low-res textures allow one to see how basic all the models and areas are. Adding higher-res textures will help hide that, but it's still going to be pasted on semi-uninteresting models and areas.

All the bump mapping in the world isn't going to help, just ask Everquest 2. At launch it had some of the most boring zones I've ever seen in any game ever. I had a system that could run it at near-max settings (OMG-worthy back then) and despite how detailed the textures were, they were still wrapped on boring models.

Expansions and add-ons have corrected the issues in newer areas, but if you go to EQ2 Vanilla zones, you know it almost instantly.

I actually think the environments are varied and great looking. And the character models look fine.

Anyone who's played WoW or MMOs in general knows that graphics aren't what make an MMO great, and I have a blast playing SWTOR.

You comparing SWTOR to EQII makes me question your judgement.

This was the release low res textures apparently.

Most of the testing last beta centered around stress testing the customer service system. I had several requests to search the knowledge base, and fill out trouble tickets while playing.

I have had no issues with disconnects, lockups, or CTDs in any of the 2 betas I participated in. Seems like they have done alot of testing of this game to get most of those ironed out.

This game is a WoW clone with a Star Wars add-on and some voice acting. That is all. It brings nothing new to the table and is just like every other terribad themepark MMO in the last 10 years. This review/rant pretty much sums up my impressions of the game after playing beta:

And what is wrong with a WOW clone set in the Star Wars universe? I hate WOW, cant stand the cartoon graphics or the much recycled Warcraft storyline, that no matter what you do in the games it just keeps getting worse for everyone. And yes the graphics in the beta test used low resolution textures. Still looked pretty good. The game and map design had some really cool enviroments.

AND most important of all to me. The story lines I played thru were GOOD. Maybe not great like KOTOR/KOTOR2 but still very good and engaging. The side quests actually had something to do with the area you were in and were mostly more then "go here, pickup this bring it to me." quests.

If I cared about just "story" and "graphics" I'd go play Skyrim and save myself a monthly fee, graphics aren't what I'm talking about.

The design of the game is what's wrong with any WOW clone, it's fundamentally flawed for what I want out of an MMO. No matter what you do it's still a clone of a piece of crap gear based theme park game. Just because you add the Star Wars and/or Bioware label to it doesn't suddenly not make it so. I'm glad I played beta so I didn't waste my time/money pre-ordering it to find out. Anyway just my 2 cents... I won't be playing it but I hopefully it's fun for those who are, just not my style of MMO.

You keep talking about the design being "wrong" with no specifics and no example of a good design. Labeling WoW, SWTOR, or any other MMO a "theme park" is an arguement people use who have no idea what they are talking about and heard someone use the term.

I hear alot of people using the arguement that SWTOR is just a WoW clone, and I fail to see how that matters. WoW is obviously a well done game. Myself and many friends played it for years. And while I disagree that SWTOR is a clone of it, there are similarities, just how there are between any MMO in existance.

Why don't you take off your hipster glasses for a moment and think of actual examples to use in your arguements. Until then, I will TRY not to miss you too much while playing The Old Republic.

Skyrim looks beautiful. But i don't like Fantasy games at all. To much of that with MUD and evercrack. And what is wrong with theme parks? People love theme parks, and Theme park RPG/MMO lets them interact with the THEME. When it comes down to it, all games are an interactive Theme park that you get to play with.
