Ok, So today I stripped the case off my blue ray drive and panted it black, then wrapped the rest of the plastic pieces that could be seen with cardinal red vinyl. I stripped the stickers off my 2tb drive and wrapped the top of it with vinyl. I also replaced the nrp logo on the front of the case with a larger one.
I have named this build EpiDemic, so i made up some decals for that to put on the power supply side. It helps fill in the void there a little.
I drilled in another tamper proof button on the front to turn the uv lighting on and off. It will also control the white lights im going to put in later.
Well, back to work on it. I will probably get back to the wiring on it tomorrow.

I thought about doing round feet, but I have seen plenty of those. I was planing on routing the bottom of the blocks so they round over, but still keep the square design. I will play with it a bit. This was a trial run anyway to see what it would look like. I may have to round the corners to see what it will look like. It will defenetly spread the light better.

How about rounding both the bottom of the feet and the sides? Leave the top edges square, as they won't be seen much if at all. Softens the look a little, getw you between a fully round and a chunky square. I agree with DB - no matter what you do, polish with the clear being *really* clear and the black being glossy.

i routed the edges already, including the bottom edges. I need to do a quite a bit of sanding, but i agree, it looks much better like that.

ok, so I got you guys some pictures tonight. I will see if i can get some good pictures in the sunlight tomorrow.
Let me know what you think.
You will also notice the hard drive and the blue ray drive are different colors too.

Looks great, not really for me since I prefer smaller builds. But this has some flair.

Hey guys, I'm so close to being done with all the cables. I put in a dimmer for my uv leds as well as an on off for them. the on off will control the uv lighs, the feet lights and i'm going to install some dim white lights in the case. The PSU has been completely sleeved as well. I need to build a couple more cables for the fan controller and sleeve a few more wires and cables. Here is a picture of what I have so far,

Holy Moses!

That is amazing! Very nice job. That thing is a beast.

I love how it all turned out. The color, the layout, the wiring, everything. Top notch build. Cool

This upcoming LAN will be his first PDXLAN, would be cool to see him win the case mod contest!

Looking super sweet in the light Penny, the pictures are starting to give it more justice. Wink

I am not going to take away the quality of this build whatsoever. This is a great machine with great parts and he spent a lot of time putting it together. But I really fail to see how this would qualify as a "Mod".

The only real Modding done to it is the PSU sleeving, painting the HDD cover, and the decals on the side.

Unless there is something that I am missing... I'm not hating at all I guess I just have a different opinion on what "Mod" means. Really great build though, was fun to watch his log.

A modded computer doesnt necessarily mean just modifying the case. Which I am assuming you mean.
Everyone has there own idea of what a mod is. I personally think there are several different varieties.
I could have torn into the case and start cutting up the panels, but the build im going for doesnt require me to.
This would also be my first build like this so I wanted to show off my wiring techniques. I also wanted to show off this beautiful case. As I have yet to see a decent mod done with it yet. All the one I have seen make it look unfinished.
The things I have modified are, like you said completely rewire and sleeve the PSU. I have sewn all the wire together. I have extended the wires on 29 fans, along with adding shrink tube all the way up to the motor housing for a cleaner look and sleeving them all. I have painted the blu-ray drive and added cardinal red vinyl to the back. I have covered the hard drive with red vinyl to match the theme. I have cut up all the uv lighting and rewired it to a dimmer in my lighting box. I cut in a tamper proof button on the front and wired that to control my lighting. I sleeved the d5 pump. I resleeved the the cold cathode and painted and sleeved the controller adding it to my lighting control box. I designed some custom decals to accent the case. I painted the fan cover on my power supply. I have also built custom feet to match the theme. I have done quiet a bit of modefiying to all the detail parts of this build, which are very time consuming.
In my opionion its a modified build, maybe not what you would concider to be modified, but my finger sure feel like its been modified.

Anyone else have an opionion on this?

IMO a mod is anything that, while assembling the system, you put extra effort into customizing the end result.

I wouldn't have the same opinion if you were to ask me 7-10 years ago, as back then you cut your own windows, fan grills, painted, and so on --Just to escape the standard beige, or brushed aluminum look--

Now days, it's hard to find a nice case that doesn't already have a window cut out, or thousands of fans, or watercooling tubing holes, and so on. There just isn't as much modding required. This does open up the avenue for a better finished product, which is what I think he has nailed perfectly.

His build may not be as custom as some have been, but modifications HAD to be made for it to look as good as it does. That makes it a mod to me.

A good one, at that. It looks fantastic.

Also, I'm not posting to argue or anything. Just wanted to throw my thoughts out based on some comments made.

Epic build man, really good job! I'm curious, what size sleeving and heat shrink did you use?

Its an 1/8 inch OD. Its MDPC small sleeving. Not sure the size of the heat shrink. Its the small size as well. It realy good heat shrink though. It shrinks down to liek 1/3 of its size, which is realy good for heat shrink.
Thanks for all the great feedback.
I have a little time off work this week, so Im going to tackle the LED's on the fan controller. not sure how this will go. I have to desolder the LEDs, flip them around, and resolder them.

The mdpc shink is very good. I believe it is 1/4", thin wall and 4x shrinkage. Most of the standard stuff in electronics stores (my limited survey) is thick wall and the 1/4" is only 2x. Which doesn't help, as it doesn't shrink enough. The 3/16" 2x stuff works, kind of, but is hard to get into the plug ends properly. Thick wall, and that means more to push in. When in, it holds pretty well, but I've had some slippage. If you're doing something like a SATA power cable (like those runs DB had in his file server) it doesn't work. Shrinks down on the sleeving fine, but never gets a grip on the underlying wire.

Yes, I've been having frustrations with sleeving and shrink tubing.... Razz

I used 1/8 MDCP sleeving as well, very tight fit. I also went with 1/8 heat shrink, which was a mistake and I should have gone a size bigger which is what I think you may have done because they came out thick and clean.
