Thanks guys. I was thinking about the Di-Noc right about the time I felt like smashing stuff around me after my 8th failed attempt. I think I have it figured out now. I was able to get a good dip last night that I think I will use.

I will be getting some Di-Noc for future use though.

Just curious, what is the cost for doing something like this, in raw supplies?

Are you talking about the Di-Noc or the paint jobs?

I think he was asking about the supplies for painting the decals and such.

@ pure - Thx man

The materials to do this are not that bad when you consider the custom look you get.

You can go to Ebay and look up "Water Transfer Printing" and you'll see quite a few vendors.

Dip kits are kinda spendy but you do get absolutely everything you need. I bought a whole bunch of films and a large quantity of activator and clear coats since I have real spray equipment. It was a good thing too because there is definitely a learning curve.
I watched all the videos I could find and it looked so simple. It can be but it must work 100% correctly or you are stripping the part back down and starting over at the primer stage. Confused

I think I have it figured out now that I'm done.

It was stressful doing 7 different looks and trying to get them perfect without ever using this process before.

Then the Prizmatic one suffered a boo-boo when I was doing my final polish. I had it looking incredible with an absolutely stunning finish and then I nicked it with the edge of my buffer. I was devastated and almost felt sick.
I sanded it back down and started over on it tonight. The clear will be ready to buff tomorrow...again.

I have the carbon fiber one curing right now and I can buff it tomorrow too.

Right down to the wire when I originally thought I had tons of time. Confused

I did that but it keeps making the clear coat curl up.. Razz

Here is the last one that I dipped. It was by far the hardest. It's not 100% perfect but I'm out of time.
It's a silver carbon fiber. I decided to add some contrast to it by masking off a couple insets in the side of the case and then paint them black. It came out pretty good but it was a real pain masking it off perfectly so if you're really picky you can see a few tiny flaws.

And here is take 2 on the holographic paint job. Evil or Very Mad I'm still really smurfin pissed that such a tiny scratch ruined it the first time. My wife said she couldn't even notice it but I wasn't chancing it.

These will both get buffed tomorrow and if I don't go full retard and screw something else up they will be shipped out.

Smile

Hahaha - THanks guys

They are finally done and not a minute too soon. These needed to be shipped out 2 days ago. Now it's up to the shipping gods to make sure they get there by Monday morning or the Zotac booth is gonna look mighty empty.

It will just be Rod's and Leatherface's stuff sitting there.

So I had to completely redo the holographic one and I was able to get it buffed out and polished tonight. It turned out absolutely flawless. It's mirror smooth and sparkles like crazy in the lights.

The first pic shows it with no light shining on it -

Then turn on the lights and POW!! In yo face!!

And this is a shot, a little dark sorry, of the reflection of my monitor in the paint. It's PDXLAN reflection of course.

I also painted the stand in what was supposed to be chrome but ended up fail-chrome so I added the Prizmatic. It just looks silver until the lights hit it.

And finally my carbon fiber one turned out ok. Not perfect but it has to do. I painted the insets black for a little contrast. The idea actually popped into my head from something Govtman wrote earlier about doing a reversal of black and silver. Not exactly what he meant but still gave me a great idea. Props to you sir. Wink

I also treated it to a high gloss finish since it is carbon fiber and polished it up for a perfect reflection.

And of course it deserves a group photo -

This was a fun project. Taking on 7 different ones turned out to be a small challenge but I would do it again for sure. I learned a lot from the processes involved on this project too. Now it will be easier the next time.

Cool

Thanks for the compliments guys.

I am so far behind on other stuff since these things consumed my life for a while. They made it to CES with no problems and Zotac liked them. They showed 3 at the booth and kept 4 in the suite for the press and party goers.

I have 2 more projects about to begin. . . . .

Curious, which ones did they display?

They displayed them all but they split them up between the 2 places. The actual CES show booth had the Cheetah Fur, Digi Camo, and the Holographic one. The rest were in the Zotac Suite that was used for parties and people from press organizations and they had a whole showroom full of stuff set up.
