8800GTX Vmod Reply with quote
While load testing DarthBevis's Vapo on a QX6700 I thought it would be an excellent time to benchmark both my 8800's to give DB an idea of how his system would perform.
As usual my Overclocking got the best of me and 600MHz/2000MHz on an 8800GTX SLI was just not enough! Being I only had stock cooling for the cards, the only way i could push them any higher was to Vmod the core and RAM.
So a trip to Radio shack was planned. To our non surprise they had everything we needed "Out of Stock" so we asked when our desired components would be restocked. We were told that they are the last store in 300 miles to stock absurd components like "Trimmers" and "PCB" and they would be dropping that product line.... I presume to make room for more pink cell phone covers Sad

so we had to make do with a hand full of 1K Micro Pots and a few 100K Pots
they didn't even have a conductive pen!

I knew this would be fun! After searching around my house i was able to track down some much need 24Guage solid core wire and a few small Bread boards.

At least something went right Smile

GPU Vmod 2- 1k Micro Potentiometers (very fine tuning)
DDR Vmod 1- 100K Micro Potentiometer
1 Bread board
3ft 24 gauge solid core wire.
1- Molex connector for easy measuring points.

Enough of my ranting here are some pictures:

Here is a easy way to help cool the card (worked really good in CrossFlo)

it eliminates a LOT of the back pressure and reduces heat escaping through the 5 slots in the side of the card

if water cooling is out of your budget that is by far the best option i have seen Smile
its a shame that the EVGA 8800GTX has such a low flow fan Razz

I made it out of a scrap of alum. The newest CrossFlo has a bit of the h20...But on the Red one it lowered the temps between 5-8C

(lol you guys are WAY braver than me to solder a 8800 card) Its gonna be fun to see what you bring to PDX10.
