Makes me want one for my Datsun. She is desperate for a new paint job. (and engine... and upholstery and...)

Can't wait to see the finished product at the LAN!

*GASP* Another Datsun fan?!?! What do you drive? My next project will be a 510.

I have a '76 710. I love driving her, but I don't think she's going to make it through DEQ this month. The engine needs a major overhaul and her age is starting to show with a few rust spots. She's now considered a 'project car' in the garage.

Thanks Cyber Smile

I am gathering up the painted parts and starting on some wiring next.

I have started a little re-assembly and here is the cpu cooler shield that was anodized black and had the Silverstone name on it.

This was it before -

And now it matches the color combo -

I'm in the process of shortening the psu wires right now and my eyes hurt. Time to buy some reading glasses I guess. I'm cutting the wires and crimping new ends on and I can't quite see what I'm doing.. Crying or Very sad

Old age is starting to suck.

Thanks Rod

I received a box today with a fan and feet from the G-man himself.

I got right to it and installed the fan. I had to turn it 45 degrees so the feet will fit. This meant drilling some more holes so I'll just plug the other ones and you can't see them anyway.

The corner of the fan sat too close to the foot mounting hole so I had to spin it. Not a big deal.

However, speaking of big deals, I really hate to show this but since I show the good AND the bad so that others can learn...

I discovered some white specs in the clear coat under bright light. You can't see them until bright light shines on it. I knew exactly what it was. When you shoot a ton of clear you really need to wait the appropriate flash time or you can get what is called "solvent popping". In this case it was bubbles that never made their way to the surface. Which was fine, until I sanded the clear and exposed the bubbles.

If this case was my personal rig I would have left it alone becasue they didn't show at all in regular lighting. But, since I couldn't sleep at night knowing they were there I had to do the unthinkable - - -

Sand it back down and start over. So it went clear to the metal and now sits in primer...again. Only the top panel and the front bezel though. I will be sure to give it plenty of time in between coats so I don't have a repeat.

I got some more cool stuff done but I'll wait to show you that AFTER we kick Govtman off of this thread. Which will be very soon.

Razz

that's MATX. It's the gene board, and judging by heatsink and SB it's 1155.

Very good Woody! You know your boards. Dayo - if it were a mini-itx board I probably would have been able to get the hard drive cage in - I had to pitch it because of the 90 degree SATA ports on the Gene board were blocked by it. As Bob says - it's snug in there!

I run a gene II...the pics of this looked too small to be matx, perhaps because of the strange heatsink.

Not so much strange as it is HUGE. Lol =) They probably had to go low profile due to the height restrictions of the case.

Again, very good Woody. A *standard* Intel cooler will fit in that space. However, with the power supply *right above* the heatsink, it seemed to me the two would be battling for cooling air. Heatsink fan blows down, PSU fan blows up y'know. (hopefully not literally....) Not to mention I *LOATHE* those pushpin holddowns.

The cooler is a Silverstone NT-06, designed for the matx silverstone case. It's as big as some in a regular case (like the coller masters, but without fans). It just looks strange because it's 90degrees from the way you normally see heatsinks these days.

Getting closer...

I mounted the new feet to the case today. I had to pick up some spacers at the hardware store becasue the bolts were too long and I wanted a little more space under the case for better airflow.

Here you can see the bolt was a bit too long.

Some plastic spacers -

I popped them under the rubber part of the foot so it extends the rubber out more and increases the height.

Looking good and plenty of air!

I also took care of one of my surprises today and will reveal that when Govtman goes into hiding for us. Razz

I popped some grommets into the previous holes I made for the filter to clean it up and hide the holes. And I sleeved the fan wires.

Now I can mount the mobo and get back to assembly.

I have the paint to finish and will take care of that tomorrow I believe.

A little more done today.

When I pulled the graphics card out I thought it needed some modding too. I felt that since it shows through the window that it should carry the same colors.

So here it is in the stock condition -

And here it is now with new colors- The pic makes it look purple but it's actually a metallic gray and the same red as the case.

It will really look nice through the window.

I am real close to spraying the paint on. I decided to fill in the joint line where the end caps go on the front bezel piece. I filled them and sanded them and primed then again and again and now it just needed a tiny bit of glazing to finish it up. Then wet sand and paint!

Paint will be complete by tomorrow night (late). I think. Or maybe Saturday by noon.

Since I'll have time in between letting things cure I will finish up the wiring. I am working on shortening the psu wires right now and sleeving them. I have sleeved all the other wires already so I'm getting close.
I still need to cut some new windows out of acrylic but i have the material already so it should get done this weekend as well.

So - - - - MR. GOVTMAN - - - - ATTENTION - - - -

Can you gracefully exit the project log please kind sir??? Do not look any further than this point PLEASE. I have shown you all I can at this point and I would like to talk to these guys alone.......

Thank you.. Please respond and let me know here. Thanks bud. Twisted Evil
