What day is it .. .. . .. . . . . . |
Far too close to PDXLAN. Thank you for working so hard on Dragon Blood (and no, I haven't looked at the log since Friday last when I said I'd stop )! Your system ain't looking bad at'all at'all! Mebbe we go to the bar for a drink after the unveil eh? |
I am in need of beer(s) |
I was thinking about something a bit more medicinal - Long Island Iced Tea! if that doesn't calm you down, nothing will.

I've been known to enjoy those a time or two...or wait,, was that 2 at once? I dunno but from what I was told I was a really funny guy that night. Thank god no pics to prove it.
More progress on this - good and bad.
First the bad.....
I am in such a rush and jumping back and forth that I am making stupid mistakes now. Only on mine Govtman, not yours, so don't worry.. lol.
One thing that is critical with paint is making sure you wait till things are cured completely before you start adding other colors or artwork where you might need to mask things off. ie. tape and soft paint = really bad.
I had all my fans painted white and looking really nice. Then I masked them off and stuck my stencils to them to paint the logo on the center of each fan. It looked really sweet...... until I pulled the tape off and the paint went with it!
And this was on top of the sticker that is on the fans covering the hole so of course now I had to sand this paint off which means it tears the sticker. So you have to peel that off and now there is a hole. F-me.
So I peel the stickers off and decide to paint over the fans again but only I get in a hurry and put too much on so it wrinkles all the paint on the blades. Now I get to somehow remove paint from all the fans. Argh.
Problem #2 - I went to mount the Engine Start switch into the center hole of the digital readout panel and guess what.... it's barely too big. So it looks like it wasn't exactly the size as advertised. So now I get to scramble to find a new switch that will hopefully fit.
So this ---vvvvv
Plus this ---vvvvv
Equals no fit!!
Ok I'm done crying..
On to the good stuff.
I let the bars dry over night that I made for the accent strips and they look nice.
I couldn't wait to try them out!
OMG I LOVE IT
And with the panels on and the feet -
I stood back and stared for a few minutes admiring it. It's exactly like I saw it in my head. But only I love it even more. It's bright, bold, and sporty.
You may notice the Enermax name is offset from top to bottom. That is so I can add the "Type R" emblem underneath.
So this really made my night much better. And I'm done working for the night and it's not even 3 a.m. yet.
You like?

That would have been sweet to light those strips up, but you did a real nice job paint them. Good work.

Very nice Bob. And I've never worried about what I would get. (curls up in corner, fits binkie into mouth and whimpers....)

Uhhh Mach 6 ? What am I missing here?
More good progress -
But first! Sometimes I swear I could hug the UPS driver....
Ohhh good stuff!
I had to go to plan B for the power button since my Engine Start button was too big. I threw in a stainless vandal switch. I have the 2 power meters on the outsides. And of course it was also painted white.
Here is a pic of what the front looks like with all the stuff in it -
Pretty clean and simple. Once it's powered up it will look awesome with all the digital readouts.
I sanded down the fan blades and repainted them. I never want to do that again.
I repainted the side panel that had the Enermax name on it because I wet sanded it to buff it and one of the letters burned through.
I have a guy making me decals to apply rather than fight this paint. I'll get those tomorrow and apply them.
I will start mounting hardware tomorrow as well.

No time.
I will be using an Engine Start button but just need to order a smaller one.

Had a great time at the lan with this baby. A lot of people hung out while I threw the hardware in it. It's cool hanging out with a bunch of other dudes talking shop. It reminds me of when I was younger and me and my buddies stood around with the hood open on our cars. lol
I still have to do all the sleeving and add some sponsor names but I am very close to being done. I will be changing up the window a little too. I used some mirrored tint but it's not mirrored quite enough. I wanted it to look like a mirror with the power off and then when I turned on the case lights you can see through it into the case.
Here are a bunch of pics -
For the sleeving, I am using red paracord. It has a great look to it. I'm working on that right now.
Thanks for watching.

it'll look good when you finish it up! Was awesome chatting with you and picking your brain. Still can't believe once that ram was installed how great it looked with that mobo.

Remember this project?
I did not realize how long it's been since I updated the build log. It's really amazing how fast time goes by.
I've been very busy with a new job, life in general, the Rosewill Red Dawn build w/ Rod, etc, etc.
I have been picking at it little by little but now it's go time!
So here are a couple updates -
I changed out the power switch to one that has an illuminated red ring instead of just a plain steel one.
It matches the overall look really nicely. I wanted the Engine Start button but they don't make one small enough for what I need. Unless...... I relocate it...... hmmm
I used red paracord and sleeved the miles of wire. My least favorite thing to do. It's a big rats nest right now as I am just checking everything to make sure it still works before I lock it all down...
The last thing I need is some GPU's. Of course I really want a couple 680's but I'm thinking they are really hard to get right now.
I'm going to make a couple block off plates to hide the optical bay area and smooth it out.
I've got some remote control LED lighting to install as well.
It's starting to shape up. I'm not doing anything else until this is done.

Well I got more done than I thought I was going to in such a short amount of time.
I was able to complete my wire management, add lighting, swap video cards, box in the optical bay, and put the side panels and racing stripes back on.
I still have a few little things to do like make a new window, and I will be getting new video cards and I'll most likely mod those to match.
Here are a few pics -
This one shows the inside looking clean. I boxed in the optical bay area to smooth it all out and hide stuff. I just used some acrylic and painted it white to match.
I played with the lights a little. I am using RGB LED's and so I can switch to any color. This pic shows the red.
Then I put the side panels on and played with the white light.
It looks really bright inside. I can dim them down with the remote if I need to.
This pic also shows how the optical bay area looks cleaned up.
I'll be getting the window done and then I will need to add all the sponsor names to it.
So close!!!
Oh ya and I was dying to see what score I would hit with this hardware - - - - -
That will work!

Thanks for trying but it's way too big. I need one that has about a 5/8" diameter. Anything for a car is going to be about 1" or bigger.
I could mount the one I already have on top or something but I'm trying to keep it as clean as possible.

I got the window installed.
I used a piece of clear acrylic but I tinted it with mirrored chrome film. It looks like a mirror with the lights off inside but when you switch the lights on then you can see inside like normal.
Here are some pics from my phone.
Here it is with lights off...
Lights on..
Still mirrored a little depending on the outside light but you can see through it pretty good.
You can also see I painted the video cards white to match.
I'm getting some decals made right now for a few spots and a couple other little things will be added but I'm 99% done.

Looking sweet man! and so very, very clean. You'll need to rub some dirt on it just so it doesn't blind people lol.
