Hey so, since everyone at the last PDXLAN got invites, I'm sure there's a lot of you out there playing right now. I've been in the beta for a few months now and have been loving it, and I'm looking to expand mah steam friends list and find a few new bros to play with.

Hit me up on steam if you want to play sometime! http://steamcommunity.com/id/pimpdaddypayne/home

Push buttons, Kill the other guy.

Keep the pressure up on the other team, at all times. Forget lanes, charge the enemy Heroes to keep them off balance. No matter how many times you die, never stop.

This is the advice that I was given, and it has served me well!

Feeding is bad. Don't do that.

I play every day, usually just 1 or 2 matches.

I do not play with anyone under 18, knowingly at least.

The spectating in Dota 2 is really awesome for learning how to play. If you ask me it's the best option, that or private games. In my opinion, bot games don't give you good experience because the bots don't give you a sense of teamwork and strategy.

Bots are great for a few reasons.

One, they are great at timed spell combos. They can show you what spells work well with other characters spells and when to use what when etc..

Two, they are not complete asses like a lot of the moba community.

Three, they are decent players with excellent timing.

Had a guy talk smack for 15min to me. Then he left. Sigh.

I was bashing pink for going 0-8 in that same 15 min though.

If you would be willing to help me understand a little bit, I would totally be down.

I have a lot of experience with LoL, so the strategy part of Dota isn't all too confusing for me. I just don't know how/where to bottle/find runes, and I still don't understand how -much- attributes effect my character and what to build as a result. I like how the recommended items are listed in early/mid/late and situational, but I don't really know where to go with what items when I want to build more utility, damage, or tank.

Greetings, everyone. I used to be a regular dota player, and figured I'd see if I could try out the beta. I went to the website and took the steam/dota survey to get on the list, but have yet to recieve a beta key. If anyone's got a spare beta key they'd like to send my way, it would be much appreciated.

if you're looking to learn how to play dota, or to get some of the nuances of play, so far this is a great video. NSFW in use of the F-word, but other than that, very good video. Skip to about 1 hour in if you've played dota before.

DOTA 2 keeps its name, Blizzard DOTA rebranded

Quote:

Blizzard and Valve have come to an agreement over the DOTA trademark

Blizzard and Valve have agreed to share the trademark for DOTA, according to an announcement from both companies. Under the terms of the agreement, Valve's DOTA 2 will keep its name, while Blizzard DOTA has been renamed Blizzard All-Stars. Blizzard can continue the non-commercial use of the DOTA name in the Battle.net community for player-created maps for Warcraft III and Starcraft II.

"Both Blizzard and Valve recognize that, at the end of the day, players just want to be able to play the games they're looking forward to, so we're happy to come to an agreement that helps both of us stay focused on that," said Rob Pardo, executive vice president of game design at Blizzard Entertainment. "As part of this agreement, we're going to be changing the name of Blizzard DOTA to Blizzard All-Stars, which ultimately better reflects the design of our game. We look forward to going into more detail on that at a later date."

"We're pleased that we could come to an agreement with Blizzard without drawing things out in a way that would benefit no one," said Valve president Gabe Newell. "We both want to focus on the things our fans care about, creating and shipping great games for our communities."
