Configuring DC++ PDX-XX Reply with quote
So its that time again, and what I mean by that is its time to setup DC++ and get hashing.

So here is a small guide for a foolproof install of ApexDC++ for optimized and safe sharing at the LAN.

What you need:
ApexDC++ - http://www.apexdc.net/download/
...that's pretty much it.

How to set it up.

Step 1. Download Apex from the provided link up top.
Step 2. Install ApexDC++, up to you if you want to include the awful toolbars that EVERY free program includes these days...
Step 3. Run ApexDC++ and now for the detailed stuff.

Upon first installation you will be prompted to enter a username and other "status" style stuff. Enter a Nickname you want to use on the hub, worry not about identifying information nothing on this hub ever leaves the network at pdxlan. Since the hub kind of acts like a gigantic chat server as well it can be a nice place to get lesser known games started up, just a thought.

Next page is Connection settings, this is where the majority of people's problems come from. If you have multiple nic's on your motherboard, or you are a beast server with a quad port you will need an ip address to bind to your server. Most people should leave it alone at 0.0.0.0 because that forces it to use whatever connection is your primary. Enable the automatic incoming connection box because we are all at a LAN and there shouldn't be any hardware firewalls present to muff this up. Likewise leave it on Direct connection for the outgoing connection box.

Next page is the download preferences settings. Here is where you tell ApexDC to put your downloads unless you manually select where a download goes on every download (which can be tedious). However a lot of people will have a bigger slush drive where they keep their Linux Iso's and other large GPL stuff. So for me it is my F: drive. You shouldn't really need to change anything else on this page.

Queue settings should be setup as follows.

Sharing is caring folks and here is how we should all setup for minimums, please share what you download by default, chances are if you wanted it for some reason other people may want it for the same reasons. And dear god don't share your windows folder...nobody wants that and it will just take a long time to hash anyway. Share what you think people may want, if that is "movies" or "TV Shows" then share that. Share as much as you can. Don't worry about how "messy" your drive is, the search should be working at this LAN and that will help out a lot.

Upload slots are how many people you want to be able to download from you at any given time. The small upload slots are for tiny files that could be readme's or something simple like that. I personally like to have around 5 upload slots on my gaming box and around 10 on my server, but I won't require you to have any more than 3, if you notice your box lagging during a gaming session...turn off Apex...that simple I would say this is an Honor system but it really isn't because I can see how many slots each person has and so can everyone else.

The appearance settings are purely fashioned on a personal level so I won't go into those really much other than on the Windows section of it just have your Apex auto open with Favorite Hubs on the top since it just speeds things along.

Logs are also kind of a personal preference, I used to love seeing what people downloaded from me...I was a creeper in the past (lulz "was") it was always good fun on campus at OSU calling people out on downloading silly stuff...

The security section is relatively new to me and I wouldn't really make any changes there.

Plugins are unnecessary here.

Advanced the only option I would uncheck by default here would be the "Publish shared files on DHT and use it for searching alternate sources" This Hub is meant to be for PDXLAN users only if you leave this checked sometimes you will upload to the outside world which is something we don't want.

And that is setup, looks like a lot I know but it really isn't.

Now to setup your client to connect to the server. Pretty simple really.

Go to View > Favorite Hubs...or click Ctrl-F and it should bring up a window where you can make hub favorites.
Click on the New button at the bottom left, and enter this as it shows. Auto check the box next to the hub when finished and you will automatically connect to it on Apex startup.

That's it, you are completely done with setup, if you have any problems you can Track me down at the LAN I'm usually willing to help just about anyone get this going.
I looked through and didn't see much that looked all that different, nothing really on the configuration side anyway.

This is great, but a couple things.

1. Was there a good way to resume downloads when restarting the application? At PDXlan 19 I had to reboot a couple times and when I got back into Apex, it seemed to forget what I was downloading. No resume Queue, no nothin. As far as you guys know, is there a setting/plugin that addresses this?
2. DISABLE ALL PUBLIC HUBS. I myself and others ran into this issue at 19. Connecting to the public hubs get's you auto disconnected from the public internet. And that leads to a crapload of people at the helpdesk getting unblocked, reblocked, and back at the desk to get unblocked again.

The resume should be automatic as long as you don't clear your queue. Not sure why yours wasn't automatically starting where it left off. The public hub thing is true though and as you can see in the image i have them unchecked.
