We should do something with all of the tons of sponsor shirts we all have over the years. Like a Sponsor Shirt relay. Teams of maybe 5 line up, first teammate runs across the field and has to put on 5 sponsor tees. He then runs back and takes them off, the next team mate has to put them all on and then run out and back, rincse repeat. First team to cycle all the way through the shirts wins.
That or if we could get people to bring a ton of shirts we could have a timed event to see how many tees we can get on a team member. |
Uhhhh no. The words "take off shirt" and the words "lan attendee" should never be in the same sentence. Ever. |
u dont want this ?

That was so incredibly funny in person. I was literally on the ground laughing by the end.

(I'm SO glad I didn't arrive until PDXLAN 9)
Is dodgeball exclusive to Crucial? You could do table vs. table.
PDXLAN-themed crossword puzzle timed event for the more...sedate folks at the tables, extra credit for filling in all the blanks?
PDXLAN-themed MAD-Libs judged by attendees?

Yes Dodgeball has been a Crucial event for as long as I can remember.. Sam and Jerm (am I mixing names again?) both host it.
How we going to sedate them? Fill them with turkey/triptophan?

BizSar is trying to be polite. Wait, don't faint! He's talking about those folks which have undersized skeltons for their weight. Like me. I should be about twenty feet tall for my weight....

Actually, I was referring to those that prefer less physically taxing contests. The lazy, infirm, or even possibly handicapped.
Sorry if it came out wrong. Am I not usually polite?

Hey all - text is text and emotions and intent don't always come through.
No biggie - it happens a ton.

| Absolutely. Matt's right - my post didn't come out right - meant to be a tease and I was laughing at myself, not anyone else, not taking offense....

This thread reminds me of a moment @ Showdown LAN in San Jose.
PSU "hammer throw" out in the park.
Lady and her kid are walking well outside of our minimal safe distance to the left of where we're at. One of the contestants chucks the PSU, and it heads right for them. (Didn't hit em, but still...)
Everyone laughs kind of nervously.
So after letting the lady and her kid cross the line of fire, they're now off to our right.
Same guy throws PSU #2 and let's go early.
Again the power supply heads right for them.
Anonymous voice in the crowd, "Why do you hate the CHILDREN?!!!"
Massive laughter ensued.
(I might have a pic of Vector standing next to the guy... I'll dig through my archives.)

Ok, so for the mouse toss, we need to bring our own mouse.
Does the same apply for the Floppy Challenge or the Keyboard Challenge?
If we need to bring Floppies, do we need 8", 5 1/4" or 3.5"?

Too late to suggest? probably but here ya go for future ideas.
I suggest non-strength related things so the more geeks of various talents can help.
STR contests
- Case shotput or
- Handled case filled with 50 lbs of stuff to do the "weight over the bar" contest
INT contests
- who can assemble a working computer in shortest time(get cheap parts online or in our own bins...cmon we all have old gear!).
- quiz with PC/Game related questions (how many MB in a GB, what does DHCP stand for, What character in what game said "It's your pet, the freakin' head-humper", etc.) mix of tech and pop culture.
CON contests
- Parking lot relay - Players carry x lbs of gear from back of parking lot to a relay. Teammate takes gear and goes to next point. Basically snake around the parking lot. you could get maybe 3 or 4 relay points out of the back area. (TWIST: Possibly have the amount of gear variable, so at each relay the weight can be tallied. The team who carries the most gear the entire relay wins!)
- Tug o war with braided 100' ethernet cables
Dex contest
- mouse or other small device juggling competition (with advance notice to practice) the person who juggles the longest wins.
Geek cook off where the staff gets to judge the food from the barbie (read "free eats")
CHA contests
- Charisma toss - who can get on stage and charm the pants off the crowd (PDXLANs got talent? like the ninja contest we did like back in PDXLAN 11)
Best (or worst) dance off.
rock band singing competition where crowd decides with cheering.
