Just finished the game. The ending was a bit anti-climatic, but that's just a personal gripe -- YMMV, as always. I'm definitely going to make another run through the game on easy difficulty and spend a little more time exploring. I spent most of the game trying to stay alive and I was running from enemies half the time after I ran out of ammo/plasmids, and I probably missed a bunch of neat little easter eggs and whatnot.

I'm not even half-way done with it, but I'm spending time playing it through and finding everything (get an achievement if I can find all the tape reorders, and they're hidden off the beaten path.. believe me)

Another note: The developers put the soundtrack up on the cult of rapture website:

http://www.2kgames.com/cultofrapture/home.html
http://downloads.2kgames.com/b....._Score.zip

The music is awesome.. great for work.

it doesnt seem to be much of a system hog. im running a e4300 with a 320MB 8800 GTS, and didnt notice any framerate problems with things cranked up. and the game looks amazing.

I havent played enough of it to give a thorough judgement yet, but so far ive enjoyed it .

I felt the same, it was weird to not see credits start rolling, so part of me didn't think it was over yet. (The other part hoped it wasn't)

Well Well Well.. it appears I was right (for those of you who don't know.. I'm super anti-sony after they put rootkits in CDs)

Engadget:Sony's back for more, running BioShock DRM with a rootkit wrote:

BioShock is undoubtedly a critical darling, but it's not without its share of technical woes. 2K Games is already on the ball with the widescreen field of view "issue," and has even slackened activation requirements, allowing for up to five SecuROM activations per copy of BioShock. Unfortunately, activation problems go deeper than that, since the Sony-owned SecuROM has deemed it necessary to pack in a rootkit with the BioShock installation, both for registered versions of the game and, inexplicably, the demo. We would've hoped 2K games chose its DRM provider carefully, and screened for such shenanigans, but Sony's SecuROM really has no excuse, since we've certainly been down this path before.

Update: Our pal Dan at PC Gamer points out that while he thought it was goofy to have the DRM on the demo too, it turns out that they pretty much always do this -- if they don't, pirates can use the unprotected exe to figure out what the difference between the demo and retail exe is, and that makes it easier to hack out.

Update 2: 2K has a statement up about BioShock's DRM. According to them, SecuROM isn't an actual rootkit, it's just hiding some registry keys on your system. Gaming Bob, who originated this story, has also retracted his analysis of the DRM as being a rootkit, and posted up some easier instructions for removing the SecuROM service, so it looks like it's indeed safe to come out and play.

But it sounds like they're just hiding stuff in our systems.. but still.. it's a sony anti-copy pertection.. what's to say the stuff they're hiding ISN'T a rootkit??

Why is it conspiracy theories run rampant on forums and among gamers.

Just enjoy the game already. Half of what gets said out there on the web is exaggeration and speculation. All that "reporting" does is misinform people.

Bioshock = creepy.

^ reminds me of EA and 2142 Ads. It never really transpired into anything. I downloaded the Bioshock demo, but haven't found time to play it yet. Sad

I feel 1/2 & 1/2 on this, if we give em an inch, they'll take a mile. I enjoyed the game, but this is just a sour lemon on the experience, and personally, I feel that there are more appropriate/honest ways that they could have installed their DRM onto our computers.

Does SecuRom hurt you in ANY way? No. Does it benefit you? Yes. Quit complaining.

I fail to see how SecuRom benefits me in any way if I have purchased the software.

I just checked my system with Blacklight, and didn't have any rootkits. Yes I've installed the Bioshock Demo.

...and I 2nd what Spork said, "I fail to see how SecuRom benefits me in any way if I have purchased the software."

I knew sony wouldn't stop trying to screw us.. It might not be a rootkit, but I don't appreciate them hiding stuff from me, on my own computer.

I agree with Spork.. if they're going to use DRM, be up-front and honost about it. There's been a bunch of anti-copy stuff that has proven to be a problem in the past, and it just keeps going and going.
