| Special thanks to the PDXLAN community |
|
After the chugging contest, I had a number of people stop by to offer a loaner card. I wanted to thank everyone that did that. There were around 9 or 10 people. The guy that one the board and my card let me keep the card since it wasn't much of an upgrade. He was really gracious. Just wanted to let everyone know this, because it is truly the community that makes this lan awesome. IMO, if you got rid of all the sponsors, prizes, tournaments and just had the people there, I would be a happy puppy. Thanks to everyone!!!

That whole thing was pretty shady anyways. That guy is a little over the top but it is good to hear that the winner didnt demand your card or anything like that. Its also good to hear that people who attended were willing to step up.
I dont quite see the point of taking someones graphics card, kind of defeats the purpose of going to a lan.

It happened at 10 too, it was the chair holding contest against the Intel guy. The guy got his card back later though.

I like the Intel guy personally... I'm just not stupid enough to gamble my video card away to him (I know he'll win).
He's a bit egotistical, but hey, he's a jock... *shrug* It's the same thing as gamers saying omfgyougotpwnt when you headshot someone in game.... Except for him it's in real life.
You challenge him, he pwns you, you cry...
Don't get me wrong, I would probably cry too lol. Either way, if you don't want to lose your video card to him, don't gamble it away... Lower the stakes, like.... "The loser has to eat Vegimite in front of EVERYONE!" I would have soooo much fun watching a sponsor eating Vegimite...
*shrug*
Back on point, yes.... I love the PDXLAN community... It's what keeps me coming to PDXLAN

What I want to see is someone beating the Intel guy. That would be epic. Maybe he would cry...

Thanks...
I have no problem losing. I gambled, I lost and was on my way to get my card, but the ridicule at the end was over the top. Kicking the guy when he is on the ground is not cool, in any book. Some things should not be deemed acceptable, no matter if you know the guy or the one being kicked.

I unlocked this as I think it is very unfair to Erik from Intel to make comments about him (Husky), then lock it so no one else can reply in favor of Erik.
I was right there at the front of the stage - I don't recall him doing any of this. I know Erik and he seems to be a pretty good guy. I never saw him "kick em when they are down" - I disagree with this.
In addition to what Intel sponsored with Processors, it was Erik who personally got the LAN 10 motherboards to giveaway. This was his own personal doing, not Intel's, not mine. That's quite supportive of the attendees.
I've seen comments like "bring back the one that was there 2 events ago" - News flash - that was still Erik.
By far Erik's presentations have been some of the best to date.

I think either I've missed the point, or you've missed the point. I think the "Kicking the guy when he is on the ground" comment was specifically referring to Syn's comment which called Bug stupid. The only one who's been overtly negative towards Eric was Husky.
But, on topic, it is pretty cool when this kind of thing happens, it's not every LAN where the majority of people respect each other to do this kind of thing. Way to go PDXLAN!

Yeah, the guy who ended up winning was a co-worker (read: lackey) of mine, and a good example of Karma... The guy ended up winning a power supply, motherboard, cpu, and headphones... at his FIRST PDXLAN!
Personally, I think Erik is a great presenter and a good supporter of the community. I also think he makes those who challenge him really think about what they're doing... otherwise I'm sure he'd have every lanner and his brother up for the challenges.
Keep him around, just be careful what you challenge the guy on!

People can make stupid decisions without being a stupid person. I make stupid decisions daily - that doesn't mean my IQ is any lower.

Now that this thread is unlocked I think it should be known that after I noticed it was locked I realized that I may have offended Bug. I immediately sent a PM to him and apologized, in the PM I included:
"Sorry if I upset you bro, that was NOT my intent at all and I should have phrased my sentence better."
Bug replied to my PM and everything is clear. I would have apologized publicly if this thread was not locked. So, I will say it now,
Bug, I have nothing but love for you man. I did not mean to offend you in any was shape or form. When I used the term "stupid" it was directed towards gambling away a video card and was not directed towards you at all! However, I do stand by my opinion that gambling away a video card may not have been a good idea *wink*
It seems that Vector is the only one who read my post the way it was meant to be written. Just like he says, we all make stupid decisions, it does not mean we are actually "stupid".
My apologies.

Erik belongs at PDXLAN because he is a cool Intel rep, he actually plays games, he brings his new big-pimpin hardware to drool over and he brings a few prizes to the event. I could do without his prizes too. I like asking him what new hardware is coming out in the future. Good stuff. Getting pwned in a chair holding contest really isn't that bad anyways. Heh... its all in fun.

I greatly appreciate your reply Vector, and it is absolutely awesome that he went out of his way to get more loot for the raffle. Looking back my comment was probably a little exaggerated and knowing the information you provided in your reply makes him look like a lot better guy in my eyes.
I really hope he doesn't get the wrong idea from this, Intel is an extremely awesome sponsor and still completely blows me away with their prizes. Sorry if it came off as a negative response.

See people were able to make it right after this was unlocked, the community is strong once again. Trust in the community.

Sorry I locked the thread too early. I had locked it due to it being off topic. I really just wanted to say thanks to everyone as they were very supportive.
As far as the chugging contest, I kinda went into that thing half unsure of what the contest was. Unfortunately, I realized too late that I had already lost. Erik stated that he was "undefeated" and didn't realize he would be the judge of the contest and a participant. Again, I should have said "no" to the contest from the start, but was already on stage by that point. Anyways, I was just having fun and was ok with losing my video card. Good reason to upgrade, right?
I'm sure if I met Erik under different circumstance, I would have a different impression of him, but from what I've heard, he seems to make unfair contests that he participates in. I feel it would be better if there had been an impartial judge, or if the contest was just a win/ don't win contest, but hind sight is 20/20.
To Syn, I take no offense. I believe everyone is entitled to their opinion. I hope in the future Erik and I can meet under different terms and have a beer. Perhaps even chug it I'll know better what to gamble around him this time.
