NEW ANNOUNCEMENT INSIDE - Starcraft Tournament! Reply with quote
SPECIAL NOTE: PLEASE VOTE FOR STARCRAFT IN THE RTS TOURNAMENT. THIS MEANS THERE WILL BE PRIZES. GOGO!

*** ATTENTION *** I will have a signup sheet for the tournament at the event starting from day 1. Even if you signed up here please sign this sheet. I have an isle seat and you will be able to find me easily.

Hello, some friends who participated in PDX Lan 13's Starcraft tournament and myself are going to be putting together a Starcraft tournament for PDX LAN 14. If you are interested in signing up PLEASE contact us by either replying to this thread or emailing me at HuskyTheHusky@gmail.com.

RULES:

1) The tournament will be double elimination. That means there is a winners and a losers bracket, with the finals being between the winners and losers bracket finalists.

2) The tournament will take place Saturday afternoon (around 3-4 PM) and will continue until its over (even if it spills over into Sunday) Please note, THIS IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE, we want the tournament at a time where the most possible people can participate!

3) All matches will be 1v1.

4) If 12 or less people sign up each match will be BEST OF THREE. If more than 12 sign up each match will be BEST OF ONE. The Semi-Finals and Finals will be BEST OF THREE regardless of how many are in the tournament.

5) There will be no time limit on the length of a game.

6) After each game players are expected to either A) Save a replay or B) Take a screen shot of the score board so if there are any disputes as to who won they can easily be settled.

7) Multiple games will be going on at any given time so the winner is expected to report to my seat ASAP after the conclusion of a game.

8.) This goes without saying, but NO cheating. We will have people walking around watching the games so please don't be this stupid.

9) If a match becomes a stalemate, that is there is NO possible way for either side to win (No attacking units, no workers, etc) then the match must be replayed on the same map with both players being the same race.

10) Playing as random IS allowed.

11) The winner is determined by who destroys all their opponents buildings first, or if their opponent quits the game. It is not based off score or anything else.

12) The SEMI-FINALS and FINALS map order will be 1) Andromeda 2) Destination 3) Tau Cross (if it goes to a third game). All earlier matches are decided by the two people in that matchup.

MAPS:

The maps are going to be some of the most popular tournament maps. They include...

- Destination (2 player map) http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/maps/3_Tau_Cross
- Tau Cross (3 player map) http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/maps/175_Andromeda
- Andromeda (4 player map) http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd.....estination

These maps have been chosen for both their popularity as well as their diversity in map layout (2, 3, and 4 players).

If a decision between the two players cannot be reached on which map to play for a given round, it will randomly be chosen by me via some sort of random number generator.

NOTE: All maps can be easily downloaded here.
http://www.iccup.com/files/vie.....ck_02.html

This map pack includes additional other maps but the ones required for this tournament are in there. If you have any trouble extracting them to your Broodwar folder let me know! They will also be available for download at the event.

PRIZES: The First, Second, and Third place prizes will be something well worth your time. Like a gold spray painted controller or a pack of erasers. The final prizes are still in discussion.

Any questions? Want to register? Post in this thread!

Thanks!

does the winner of the loser's bracket have to win twice in the finals to be declared winner?

As puppet said, to keep the length of the tournament a little shorter and the fact that finals are Best of 3, we feel there is no reason for a second matchup (which could total up to 6 games). The winner of the losers bracket would have to beat the finalist 2 times anyway at the end.

Put me down, no questions about it.

I loved the tournament at 13, congrats for winning that.

You handed it to me then, but I will be avenged!

Yeah those were some epic games overall, some mistakes were made, but thats how it goes in Starcraft! And actually I'm glad I got second, the day I got home my friends power supply burned out, and oh gee, guess what I won for second!

Thanks for signing up, let anyone else you know to hop in this thread if you dont mind.

At least you have a good reason. Heck, I'm just too lazy to install the game, let alone play it. None of my RL friends play it, and BNET (last time I played) had just regressed into a "see who can build the fastest" type game, which is just not how I like to play. =(

Haha, this is actually a pretty common misconception about battlenet.

Extremely low level Korean players have flocked to Battlenet recently which in turn has people joining a lot more of the 'low money' maps (aka the default ones that come with the game).

Given, there are still a TON of 'F@$e$t Map Po$$ible' and stuff like that. But eh, just gotta know how to find the good games.

And none of your friends play Starcraft???????????????????????????? That must be horrifying Razz

No offense to starcraft players, I just tend to like more involved RTS's. Sins of a Solar Empire is my current fav, has been since it came out. Before that it was probably Supreme Commander, and before that it was probably Rise of Nations.

It's cool, not everyone is in too StarCraft. I for one like it but it's hard too find a good map that does require you to be smart about your building Sad
