| Re: Lighting Behind Mesh Ideas |
|
| Got any good pictures of various lighting behind modder's mesh? I'm looking for ideas. Thanks! |
Plan to finish my PSU which will have UV blue acrylic behind painted modders mesh with UV LEDS. . . .

I somehow want to spell out "bnash10125" or "LANBOX" on the side. I'm not sure which one or how to do it best.
I am picturing replacing the existing acrylic with something else and possibly add some fans to the side for more airflow too.
Ideas:
1. AC Ryan meshX and cut out the letters in the mesh and put a UV acrylic piece behind the cutout mesh and the letters being lit up by a UV LED to make them stand out.
OR...
2. Have the letters cut out of the acrylic and somehow lit up to stand out. Have mesh behind acrylic.
DB, ever since you mentioned putting acrylic behind the mesh, I've had a bunch of different ideas on how I can do this. I've also looked at Bobdbone's Ant Farm case with the "Ultra" cut out of the side with mesh behind it.
Im not sure which way would be better looking. I would really like to see what you do with your power supply.

You could pay Danger Den to laser cut the letters from the UV acrylic and attach them to the mesh, you could mask the acrylic except the letters, paint the acrylic dark, peel off the mask, then use a scroll saw to also cut the letters out of the mesh and place the acrylic behind it and light it with UV leds, you could do what Boddbone did, you can paint the letters on teh mesh with UV paint and light it up from outside which will give the cool effect the guy with the Portal mod did . . . .lots of options.

I've never tried it but you could use black epoxy to fill the holes in the modder's mesh in the shape of the word you're trying to spell. Then you back light it.
Edit: now that I think about it a better way might be to use any color of epoxy and then paint the whole mesh whatever color you want.

Depending on the mesh you use, here's an idea-
First I would use LANBOX so that it appeals to the masses. It's a lot easier to see, spell, and it's shorter so you could increase font size to fit in the area you want.
On the back side of the mesh(inside the case) tape it off with blue tape completely.
Next get some stickers or vinyl letters with LANBOX in the size and shape that you want and stick it to the front side of the mesh.
Now, prime the front side of the mesh with a light coat of good primer. Follow that with paint in the color you want to use. Use several medium coats until the holes begin to fill with paint. Make sure to let each coat dry a while.
I would paint the mesh until the holes are only half full of paint so that it still looks like a meshy surface.
Now pull the letters off and the masking from the back and you will be left with mesh with the word LANBOX that has all the holes to light up from behind and a solid looking mesh where the paint has filled the holes.
I hope this makes sense. If not pm me. This will only work if the holes are fairly small because paint is not exactly a "filler" but can be applied heavy enough to get it to work.
Also, after you unmask everything you'll want to hit the front and back with a light coat of paint to blend it all together color wise.

Thats a pretty good idea! Just slowly fill in the holes in the letter area with paint.
I will probably use LANBOX instead of my name. |
I was actually thinking the opposite. Fill all the holes except your name so that it's lit up. If that's the look you want.
I have some perforated aluminum from the ant farm mod left over. If you want to use it give me the exact dimensions you want and I'll give it to you.

I just added a table router to my modding harem. Also have a plunge router. Keep that in mind if you need to do some stuff.
-Table saw
-Miter Saw
-Scroll Saw
-Miter Saw
-Jig Saw
-RotoZip
-Several Dremels
-Acrylic Bender
-Plunge Router
-Table Router
-Drill Press
-Grinder with buffing wheel and grinders installed
-Jager Tap Machine
Also have the garage wired with a cat 5E drop, just need to terminate both ends and plug it in so you can fully build and setup a rig in there.

I think you should match the honeycomb mesh found build into the front of the case.
