In need of advice :) COD W@W or...?

I definitely want to play Call of Duty! Buuut I was just wondering if I should start out with the first one or if it doesn't really matter which one I start on because each game doesn't build too much on the one before it? (That was a real run on sentence...that may or may not have made sense Crying or Very sad

)
I was thinking that more people would play W@W since it's newer...?

Anyway, what do you think? Am I better off with starting in the beginning or does it really matter?

Start with COD4 BEST ONE OUT!, I bought COD W@W and never play it. Only good part is Zombies.

Definitely get CoD4.

Get CoD4, it's a lot better. W@W is fun on PS3, but it's definitely not as good as the games made by Infinity Ward.

You can get it on Steam. I have COD W@W and am not really playing it at all. WWII is kinda spent in my opinion.

I've played COD4 all the way through. I dabbled in the other ones. There doesn't seem to be much of a story in 1-3 that is threaded from game to game. (I could be wrong). COD4 is great and has an expansion / sequel on the way that I am eagerly awaiting!

I too will say COD4. I actually have an extra copy of W@W from PDX13 (it was the free game, had two seats) and if you want it, it's yours. Been waiting for the LAN to come so I could just give it to someone anyway.

My friend gave me his cod4 cd but I haven't really played it...with all this praise for it maybe I should reconsider!

Left 4 Dead will be played ALOT at the LAN. There are tournaments for it too.

IMO, COD4 and COD W@W are both good games. I think COD4 is still very popular because it is such a good game.

Well, COD4 has been beaten to death in this thread. For whatever it may be worth, this one has the most compelling storyline as far as I'm concerned. It also looks better than COD:WAW IMNSHO.

However, WAW is worth getting sometime, because what's not to love about NAZI ZOMBIES?!

(L4D and TF2 are also obligatory.)

because it hasn't bee said enough...

get cod4 (aka modern warfare) and play through the campaign, its fun and engaging...
then try multiplayer, but don't get upset that you'll suck probably untill lvl 24 or higher...the game takes a little getting used to, but its great fun...and the main reason you will suck is because everyone else has already been playing it for almost 2 years and know everything about the maps.

you can pick up world at war for free for someone, for that price its worth it, the campaign is so so, zombie mode is fun with friends...multiplayer is kinda boring though.

and of course, be on the lookout for cod modern warfare 2 coming out november 11th...it continues the story from where number 4 left off and should be as good as the 4th if not better.

Ive been trying to decide on whether or not to buy L4D.. Is it worth the money? I've heard you guys say that the single player sucks but hows multiplayer? I'm not sure how far off L4D 2 is, I was thinking of just waiting until that came out...
