NES build Reply with quote
I've been starring at an old NES, that bobdbone was kind enough to give me. Deciding whether or not I want to make a computer out of it. Then at end of PDXlan 17, I won an ITX board from Intel to add to the pile. Knowing that the last thing I need is another computer. I went out and bought a dremel today. Now all of you get to watch the debut of my modding career.

It has been done before I know, but I don't have one and I could use a(an?) HTPC I guess. So here it is...

The Parts so far

Disassembled

MY NEW TOY!

(I think it is awesome of Dremel to have expansion slots in the case so you can add stuff prn)

After the dremel

So, rough measurements put the inside clearance @ 3.25 in. Hopefully the "SilenX EFZ-100HA1" @ 67mm (2.6 in) will leave me enough room to squeeze in a slot load drive...

Not sure I have the mad modding skills to make it as awesome as some of the people around here, But I will do it justice. Feel free to throw ideas out there.

dang....beat me to it....

I've been wanting to do this a while but have been held back by finances. I plan to eventually build one for use as my HTPC. I'll be watching to see if you run into any snags to prevent me from doing it in the future.

I would just suggest that you look at some build logs of other ones that have been done so you can see the mistakes they've made or issues they ran into. It could save you a lot of headaches.

Just take your time and think things through. It will turn out awesome!

And remember-

It's better to have modded and lost than never to have modded at all Cool

SACRILEGE!!! I can't believe you took apart a perfectly working Nintendo. You sir, are an abomination to the 8-bit world.

It will have emulators and NES (usb) comtrollers. If I do it right you want even know. Its more of a homage to my favorite system.

If taken apart correctly i'd imagine the guts of the NES would still work.

Maybe that could be moved into a broken xbox 360 case, for fun.

If you ever get around to doing that, let me know. I'd love to swap it out for the 360 I have and see my kids response when a Nintendo game loaded up instead of the 360.
