Hello,

Thank you for submitting a tournament request to us! We are happy to extend RP prizing for your tournament. This however, does not mean we are sponsoring your event, so please do not list such details; this but is not limited to posting the Riot Logo with your event. The League of Legends logo is acceptable. Please note that we get a high volume of tournament requests so prizing may take up to 3 weeks to be distributed after receiving your list of winners. Here’s what we are willing to offer for your tournament;

1st place: $20 RP + Triumphant Ryze per player

2nd place: $15 RP per player

3rd place: $10 RP per player

4th place: $5 RP per player

Roster size should be limited to 5 players per team. If substitutes are allowed please send the 5 names that should get prizing. If more than 5 are listed only the 1st 5 will receive a prize.

When your tournament concludes, please email us a list of the winners with their summoner names along with your Sub number that is listed at the end of this email. It is a requirement for us to receive verification along with the results. This includes a tournament bracket(s), screenshots, pictures etc. If you do not provide us with adequate proof, we will not distribute any prizes.

We also require a minimum of 8 teams participating in order for this tournament to be valid in receiving prizes. Thanks again for letting us know about your tournament! Please refer to: http://competitive.na.leagueof.....-event-faq for any general questions. If you cannot find an answer to your question there then please don’t hesitate to ask.

Who wants to take this ball?

Are you looking for someone to step up and be a tourney admin? I can oblige if no one else will.

Vector, have you decided on the details about the tournament? Double elimination or single? Best of 3 or a single game? etc.

its probably going to be one of 2 types

Single elimination for the first 1-2 rounds then double elimination the rest of the way
OR
Semi-Finals + Finals would Best of 3 (maybe one more tier depending on teams)

and the rules would look somthing like this

General & Game Settings:
Competition Method: 5 vs. 5
Maps allowed: Summoner’s Rift (summer)
Mode: Tournament Draft
Bans per team: 4
Game Length: Until the winner is determined
Game Winner: The team who completely destroys their opponent’s nexus or forces their opponent to surrender.
Champion Selection: Draft mode will be used. Players may only select champions that are unlocked via any means.
Restrictions: There are no item/champion restrictions at this time. At the discretion of the Tournament Director or Head Admin, restrictions may be added while the tournament is in progress if there are known bugs with any items/champions.

Draft Rules:
Draft Options: Tournament organizers can either use the draft mode feature or conduct a manual draft (e.g. draft that is conducted in chat without the use). The starting players for each team must be declared prior to the start of the draft (i.e. you cannot substitute a player after a draft has been conducted).

DraftOrder: The team listed as the home team will have the choice to select their side as blue (first pick) or purple (second pick). The home team will be decided by a coin flip. In a multiple game series, the loser of a game will receive first pick for the next game.

Draft mode proceeds in a snake draft format as follows:
Blue Team= A; Purple Team = B

Bans: ABABAB
Picks: ABBAABBAAB

Stoppage of Play:

Terms:
Unintentional Disconnection: One player losing connection to the game due to problems or issues with the game client, platform, network, or PC.
Game Leaving/Intentional Disconnection: One player losing connection to the game due to player’s actions (i.e. quitting the game)..
Server Crash: Multiple players losing connection to a game due to an issue with a server or platform.
Stoppage of Play Procedure/Pause Rules:
A player, who is experiences technical issues, on any team may call for a game restart prior to first blood within the first 5 minutes of the game (i.e. before the timer shows 5:00). The player must be experiencing a hardware malfunction (e.g. monitor, peripheral, etc), a physical disruption (e.g. fan interference, table or chair breakage), or a configuration issues (e.g. runes, masteries, or summoner spells are not properply applied). The player must declare the issue in public chat or to a tournament administrator and then intentionally disconnect. Once the player disconnects, the game is considered null and void and should be restarted unless a tournament administrator determines that the conduct represents unfair play. If the game is being played on a Tournament Realm, then the Pause Rules apply (see below)
If an unintentional disconnection occurs within 5 minutes from the start of the match & before first blood –OR– a player’s client crashes or fails to load after champion selection, then the match must be restarted. Otherwise if the unintentional disconnection occurs after those milestones, the game will continue as normal. The crashed player may reconnect into the game as soon as they are able. If the game is being played on a Tournament Realm, then the Pause Rules apply (see below).
If a player intentionally disconnects without specifying a reason, then the game will continue as normal.
If a server crash occurs, then the tournament director or head referee will decide either between (a) restarting the game or (b) awarding the game to one of the teams. As a guideline, a game victory will only be awarded in a situation where one team was on the verge of certain defeat (e.g. A nexus was about to be destroyed).

Unfair play:
The following actions will be considered unfair play:
1) The use of any cheat program and/or map hack program.
2) An intentional disconnection without a proper and explicitely stated reason
3) The use of any settings exceeding the standard and permitted settings
4) Intentionally allowing an opponent to win a game.
5) Unsportsmanlike or disruptive behavior such as inappropriate and/or unprofessional actions directed towards another player or tournament official.
6) The use of a game bug that is determined by the board of referees as being unfair.
7) The use of an ineligible player (aka “ringing”)
Cool See Player Conduct Guidelines for additional descriptions of unfair play and associated penalties that are applied to the Challenger Circuit.
9) See Certified Team Regulations for more information on the expectations of teams who participate in Challenger Circuit, Regional, and World tournaments.

Upon discovery of any player committing any violations regarded as unfair play, the offending player, at the sole discretion of the tournament director or a group of referees, may receive a warning, a forfeit loss, disqualified from the tournament. Prize money may also be deducted as a % of the offending teams at the sole discretion of the Tournament Director in accordance with any policies that are already existing.
During the course of the event, the tournament director or group of referees may determine other actions to embody unfair play.

Final provisions:

At the discretion of the tournament director to modify any of the rules above to ensure fair play between teams in a tournament. The rules are most likely to be amended in the following cases:

1) If a different patch/version release is used and modifications to the rules are necessary to ensure fair play.

2) If players are suspected or proven to be engaging in unfair play or collusion to fix the results of agame.

3) If changes to game settings and/or operations guidelines are necessary due to differences between online and offline tournaments.

4) If there are substantial delays to a tournament that would prevent it from concluding in a timely fashion as required by a live venue.

Since there are prizes for 3rd place, I would suggest the latter option.

Single elim for the 1st-2nd is great for competitions that have seeded players and huge amount of entrants with varying amounts of skill- like a PAX smash bros tourney.
And since were probably not getting seeded as this is the first official tourney, it would be nice for people to play more than 1 team before getting DQed.

If there are under 16 teams in an organized tournament it should still be feasible to run a double elim throughout the day, assuming you're strict about DQing absent teams.

Only problem with not doing single elim for the first couple rounds is that Vector didn't want an all day tourney.

In a tournament sticky thread: Think "A tournament that can be done in 1-2 hours"

I don't think a double elim format would get us a short enough time frame. Granted, just a few games could go for a couple hours, I think we will need at least 6 hours in total for the whole thing to run through. I'de say that if we can get confirmation from Vector that this tourney will need more time just because the game kind of requires it, we could do double elim, but if we are held to the quick tournament format that vector wants we will need to do single elimination at least for the first few rounds.

also to solve most of the D/C issues we can use the tournament draft custom game mode which now has the pause feature enabled

Single games, double elim would probably be the most popular choice up to the final few games. This gives the opportunity to play more than one team, but cuts down on time. Having a best of 3 for every match is what will cause an exceedingly long tournament.

I agree. Single games, double elim, with a best of 3 in the finals/maybe semi-finals would be the best option.

doing double elim with best of 3 for the semi-finals would take too long if anything it would be Finals only, I will make the call that morning when we have the team meeting and know exactly how many teams will be participating etc.

On that note, i will be the LoL Tournament admin so any questions can be directed my way about whats going down

Are you saying it's looking to be a double elim with a possible best of 3 finals or will it have to be single elim? I know it all depends on the number of teams, but based on what we have now, I'm guessing 12-13.

Just an FYI. Tournament draft is now 4 bans per team, since they are approaching 100 champs.

I don't think you needed to change it. Real tournament draft is 4 bans and all champions are unlocked, but I'm not sure it's even released to the public. I think the draft mode available in custom games is only 3 bans still. If we paper draft we could increase the bans per team to 4, paper drafting is how the drafting has been done in previous LoL tournaments at PDXLAN anyways.

Another option some online tournaments are using is that each team bans one champ, then they start the normal draft and ban 3 more. So each team bans 4 champs, and the entire drafting doesn't have to be done on paper.
