Design a Tournament Reply with quote
Hey all - I want to do something with Dungeon Defenders at PAX - keep in mind I will have people that have never played.

What are some ideas using this game as a contest? About a 1 hour contest?

Highest score on any given map? It'll be hard to make it even for people who play the game a lot compared to those who don't. Gear makes the man.

That would be my suggestion too, but would people be able to bring in their current characters or would everyone start fresh for the contest? Putting level 75s vs lvl 1s would be hard. As you said, gear makes the man and they would have had more time to collect gear.

That being said, maybe a second prize for fastest time completing a map too.

Longest lasting team with no turrets?

Longest lasting team with no UPGRADED turrets?

How far can you get with only monk auras?

Assuming the game hasn't changed all that much from when I played (just before the Barbarian came out) upgrading turrets didn't really do all that much and Monk Auras were just starting to get nerfed because they could literally do most of the work (Ensnare + Lighting + Immolation Trap = game over if time isn't an issue)

One of the easiest things to do would be get a mod going for the open side of Dungeon Defenders. That way you could try equalizing the playing field, though I have no idea how (I haven't checked out the modding tools.)

E: Maybe the best way to do it is make it a LAN-long event or multi-day. Say "Make a character with PDX123_ at the front of your name." then have a few different winners. Fastest person though Assault, group that survives nightmare mode the longest. Granted that won't fix people who can hit high levels then throw their awesome gear over, but that's a start. I don't know if they've nerfed Summit grinding. If leveling is harder/easier than when the game first came out, it may be more difficult or easier in that regard.

I am not sure how early on I started playing but upgraded turrets make quite a difference now, or at least barriers do. Monk auras are good until you get into higher waves where their hitpoints allow them to just slowly walk right through the aura then start sprinting to the crystal.
