I would love to play in a BF3 tourny but I don't have a team or anything.....but I would love to play in it. So if anyone need a ringer I'm down.

In the past I have had no problem finding a team at the LAN, in fact they normally have a sign up for ringers!

I figured this would be the case. PDXLAN18 was my first PDXlan (yes it was FREAKING AWESOME), so I'm a little new to how the whole thing works.

I think the new DLC, due out in June, will allow for some interesting matches...
Double tickets, infantry only, small map. Everyone takes home a small prize at the end. Hoping it'll only be like 3 rounds total.
Make it fast. Make it simple, keep it under a few hours this time!
STAMPEDE TOURNMENT!
If the Staff want to skip/cut down on organization...
Have everyone sign up on ALP. If you're not signed up, you will not get a prize at the end. ALP just supplies a list of players, to see how many players per server that needs to be set up. Take the total amount of players signed up and divide it by 5.
The idea is to cut out an amount of players from being able to join the two servers when they are FLASH announced and then having players RUSH/STAMPEDE to get into a server or risk being left out of the tourment.
Keep the server names hidden until the last minute, and the passwords.
Set up TWO X vs X (where X is 1/5 the total players signed up) servers+1 for an active admin, team death match servers. Whatever game settings the admins feel like. Use the PA system to release the password and name of the server. Once both tams fill up, the staff admin screenshots player list then starts the game while announcing this is live!
Someone needs to be on the PA making getting into the server a big, BIG deal. Make the players feel rushed. Its a stampede tournment. First to log in get a chance to play and randomizes the teams!
For example: I see it going down like this...
Announce the BF3 Stampede tournement on Night one to the audience, keep a steam event scheduled for everyone who signs up to be in Battlelog at a certain time on Sat or Sun.
100 people sign up on ALP.
Two (20vs20)+1 slot for admin, servers are set up with the only set rule is for AUTOBALANCE TURNED OFF. Each one has a unique name and password. Admin logs into server and waits, his job is to screenshot the teams at the start and end of the game.
Vector,Midget or whomever, announces over the PA system the players have 15 to be signed into Battlelog and be READY. You HAVE TO remind the players at 10 minutes, and 5 minutes and 1 minutes that its a first come and first serve only tournement. Not everyone will get in! Make a big big deal!
Then shout out the one of the two Tourment server names and passwords. Players rush in to join the server, first come first serve. Admin screenshots team list and starts the match. Match concludes, admin takes a second screenshot. Any players not on the same team they started on are disqualified.
Start the second, 1st round server 5 or 10 minutes after the first, to keep all the players on thier toes...
Winning players move onto the next and final STAMPEDE pool.
Now for the final round...
Take the remaining player pool and divide by 3 this time.
It will be 1/3 vs 1/3 team deathmatch with the same setup/stampede style as before. But the staff intensive part comes in here.
Before match goes live, verify names of people laying are names that were in the winning rounds from batch one. Once verfied, start game.
Winners take all. Small prizes.
Anyone who did not get into the first two servers will be counted as out of the tournement once again in the final round.
Pros?
Fast, less instensive and less serious matches.
Something new.
First round of games nearly headache free and fun to watch people scramble.
Everyone has an equal chance to join or miss out.
Very PDXlanish (against the grain, light and causal atmosphere and non-pro rules.)
Cons?
People may become upset they didn't get a chance to play.
No random prize for random team.
Instructing everyone to be ready, getting the word out in time.
Verifying eligible players in 2nd game seems like a headache.

I agree, sounds like fun. I have a feeling that it may cause the admins some greif, but it could be a lot less greif then a normal BF3 tourny

The BF3 tourney at Intel LANfest in Sac went really well, I would say.
8v8 conquest with a few bans on weapons and a few tweaks on how the server was setup (ex: no regenerative health, to promote teamwork) and vehicle limitations on certain maps (ex: no air on Kharg Island)
It was a blast, and most teams were made at the LAN and the teams were organized through LANhub and then a bracket was made.
I don't have a problem with the above setup and I, personally, would play both if both were done at the LAN, but this worked really well and was really, really fun. The only problems we had were losing a connection to EA, which is irrelevant to how the tournament is set up, and I think it would have been nice to have a losers bracket but they didn't have enough servers available so it was single elimination, which was lame for the teams that got out early.
I know it's still a ways off, but I would really like to play in another tournament like this!

It was a very fun tourney to admin and watch from here in OR. I thought I recognized your soldier name.

yep that was me! It was probably the most fun I've ever had gaming. What was involved in admin'ing it remotely? Do you think a tournament like that is doable at PDXLAN?

I initally set up the servers as the host requests, then provide support as needed. BF3 can even be adminned via cell phone app.
Of course, it is doable like anything else.

I really like Orthodontists idea of a STAMPEDE TOURNMENT!
The idea of random teams and the rushing to sign in to the server before others.

| Gun Master |
|
I kinda liking the game mode "Gun Master", it resembles GunGame for those players that play or use to play counter strike and counter strike source. It could be played as an "elimination" over 5 to 10 rounds depending on how many people would be up for playing bf3 tourny.
BUT this requires PREMIUM OR CQ DLC

isn't this only in a TDM format? also, a LOT of luck comes into play in this game mode, i find it fun to mess around in but also frustrating if i can't find anyone or get unlucky a couple times and then get stuck on weaker guns forever lol

It is in teams but its free for all on who ever gets to the last level first. you lose if you dont get to the last level first, but everyone gets scored by points from "winner" to "lowest level" and could be judge by that on the elimination. I dont have a problem going from level 1 up when joining late but i guess im just "lucky" or just in the "mode" lol
One thing I would suggest when playing this mode, make it "hardcore". it makes it easier for lower levels but also giving it a faster and more challenging experience. forces you to be more focused.

Sorry to double post, but it has been a while.
I looked through the schedule on the Steam group and it has BF3 Tournament at 10:01 AM Sunday,
What are the rules for the tournament / team limits?
Just so I can get an idea of what friends to pick for my team haha
Thanks
