How much paracord do you think I should order for a itx build? I was thinking I should order 300 feet does that sound about right?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.....re=related
I found this great link for paracord sleeving. I am goign to look into his no snag tool that he made. That tool looks like it would save a ton of time. PLus he shows a great way to do it with no need for heatshrink. I think that is the way I am going to go.

same idea my the rod I am making will be longer - length of maximum wire you will run

I looked at the one the guy is using in the video, but he is charging $12. I wish I could buy it but I just bought a case, and the paracord. I am trying to find a local place that carries tool to take out the wire from the connectors.

300 should be more then enough for an itx build.
I think we used about 500' on the Rosewill SR-X build

I've found it best to just cut the old ends off and recrimp new pins. Yes you need to buy pins and have the correct crimping tool but you also can change the length of the cable and the number of connectors!

I think I will make a run to Frys tomorrow morning to see if they have the pins and a decent crimper then.
Heck since I am moving to ITX only I am thinking about selling my Rampage 3 extreme with water now.

keep ur crimp hand strong. I have crimpers from MDPC and Frozen CPU if you want to compare two kinds to see what you like best.

Last time I checked Fry's didn't have the right pins or crimper.

Having some trouble trying to figure out how to sleeve my PCI Express cables. My Antec PSU is modular, and it goes from an 8 port plug on the PSU to a regular 6 pin plug for PCI Express, but then the second 6 pin plug is connected to the first (daisy chain style). Trying to figure out the best way to get the sleeve all the way to the end, and still have the daisy chained part functional.
The other part that I haven't tackled yet is how to sleeve the SATA power cable/chain. The SATA power connectors attach on to the cable through some kind of vampire method, but again I'm not sure the best way to sleeve that cable. Sleeve the entire thing and cut a portion off where the connector needs to go? Sleeve up to the connector and then sleeve the other side with a second sleeve?
I'd appreciate any help with the above!

cut the pins recrimp new ones for the PCI-E
For sata power I prefer to use single colored wire instead of sleeving (use color that matches the sleeving). It is better to roll your own IMO

I like the suggestion about the SATA cables. I will probably give that a try when I move everything over to my new case and get a good measurement.
For the PCI Express cable, I don't know what you're suggesting. If I cut the pins and crimp new ones on, I still have the problem of trying to figure out how to sleeve 2 cables coming out of one plug.

Hmm...Looking at the pinouts at http://www.playtool.com/pages/.....ctors.html , it looks like I should be able to rearrange the grounds so that they fit better, without causing any electrical problems. Am I right?

individual sleeving so should be no problem. Will take more crimping effort but doable. Maybe use a little solder.

So, I took all my gear with me during our family vacation at the beach (hey, I needed to do SOMETHING while the little one was napping!) and got a lot accomplished. I'm not done, but I finished some large portions of the work and thought I'd share my progress. I recently moved all my components over to an Antec Eleven Hundred (from an older Silverstone TJ-09). I absoltely love the new case as it provides almost a full inch of cable space behind the motherboard, as well as a 12cm fan mount to blow air on the rear of the CPU socket.
Click on the pictures for high-res versions.
ATX cable
This proved to be rather difficult as several of the pins have 2 wires running back to the PSU. I ended up having to order a crimp tool and new ends, as I couldn't get the paracord over the double wires.
PCI Express power cable
Same problem as above. I'm not sure I like the bundle of cables up at the video card end of things. I'm thinking about rerunning it so that 2 wires come out of the PSU end, which would end up looking a lot cleaner I think.
8 Pin power cable
One of the things I didn't expect when moving over to the new case is that my 8pin power cable would no longer reach the top of the motherboard (when routing behind the board). I have an extension order which will allow me to route behind the board again, which will clean up the front quite a bit.
PSU connections
You can see the SATA and 4pin power cables that I haven't done yet. I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do. The 4pin connectors are daisy chained, and too thick to get the paracord over. I could cut them and rewire, but I'm thinking of buying a 6pin connector (for the PSU side) and making one long cord to a single 4 pin plug, which I can then plug in all sorts of extensions behing the board where people can't see. It would be a lot easier to wrap that way. For the SATA side, I really want to do what Darthbeavis posted earlier. Even though my power and data connections are facing the rear, it would still look really slick.
I'd appreciate any comments or help on the above pics!

also great sleeving bud. Keep up the good work.
