Parts for charity build(updated) Reply with quote
So I went to the beach for an overnight trip without the kids and stayed at a wonderful little inn in depoe bay. The owners just recently purchased the property and have not gotten into much. But what I was hoping to do was put together a computer for them to put in the common area for visitors to use. If you have any parts you would be willing to donate that would be great. What I am looking for are as follows. Please just contact me with what your willing to donate and I will add it to the list and we can setup a time to pickup.

Case - Baewolf(Received)
Power supply - Baewolf(Received)
Motherboard - wildcard
CPU - Looking at buying a g530
Memory -
DVD Drive - jlackner19
Hard Drive - jlackner19
Operating System - jlackner19
Monitor -
Keyboard - (Baewolf) (Received)
Mouse - (Baewolf) (Received)
Printer -
Wireless Card -

Thanks in advance

Put linux on it! In all seriousness, unless the owners know how to reimage the machine again and again you should put together a linux box. Then you don't have to worry about viruses and malware crap. Create an admin account and a basic user. This way if somebody does manage to bork a user account they login as as the admin account and create a new user. Even better, Google up Kiosk mode. Although in full desktop mode there are a bajillion free apps they could have on it.

No need to go with a linux box. Just setup your Vista machine with Steadystate - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_SteadyState

More to the point of your post, I have a DH67GD motherboard I can contribute to your project (LGA1155).

Why wouldn't you just take the one DB offered? It's a whole pc minus the hdd. Seems a lot easier.

Reasoning for that is A) I know the cost of ddr ram and don't have the money to do it. B) I dont want to give them some old machine that's not going to last very long.

Come on guys. We need memory and a cpu. ddr3 4x1gb would work or 2x2gb what ever you may have laying around collecting dust. Also if someone bought a lower end 1155 chip and no longer needs it let me know
