So Pancake gave me his old AV8 Case about a year ago, and I had it sitting on my desk, looking at it every day, trying to visualize what to do with such a great case.

About 6 months later, I got the inspiration I was looking for.
I would do a mod, inspired by the achievements of this man:

I have done quite a bit of work on it since then, and will be posting more updates in the next week or 2.
The plan is to have it ready for PDXLAN next month.

Stay tuned...

DM - just watch out for the automatic maple syrup dispenser. Made a horrid mess when Pancake was using maple syrup as a coolant!

All graphics removed.
Had to use a special solvent that breaks down the residue left behind by the stickers/graphics, but that would not make the clear acrylic cloudy.

Began a Flat Back paint job on the Top, Bottom and Side panels, as well as the metal frame.
The Motherboard Tray will be left clear.

I decided to replace all of the dated plastic Black Screw Caps

With shiny new Aluminum Washers

Also replaced every single screw on the existing case with black metric Hex Bolts

Updated motherboard tray
All screws are now hex bolts, aluminum washers added, fan grills removed, updated fans with new Enermax TB Silence Blue (lightning bolt pattern) LEDs

I wanted this mod to have a motorcycle/automotive feel to it.
Based on that, I chose this Blue LED Corsair RAM, 16GB DDR4:

I decided to go with an air cooler, which I though would work well with the theme.
So I bought the biggest CPU Cooler I could get my hands on, this thing is massive.
It has two 140mm fans and 14 heat-pipes!, best of all it's super quiet.
It will be cooling an i7 7700k:

Lastly, I won a 500GB M.2 at the last Summer LAN (thank you PDXLAN and Toshiba OCZ), which I will be using, and added an EK (Evel Knievel, get it?) heatsink to it

As I was doing research on this case, I noticed that other AV8 Cases sometimes had a back panel behind the motherboard tray, while mine didn't

Others:

Mine:
in its original state...

So I special ordered a picture of Evel Knievel mid-flight, during the 13 British Bus Jump attempt at Wembley Stadium in the UK. I went to TAP Plastics and ordered a Black Acrylic Backing and a Clear Acrylic Front, to use as an invisible sandwich frame for the picture, which will be the computer's back panel. No longer being able to see through the top-back of the motherboard

Just to clarify, the above picture will go here:

I was so close to having a perfect paint job, but on the last coat of paint things went horribly wrong.

All of the paint started peeling right after I sprayed giving me an orange-peel texture. I let them dry, sanded the pieces and tried again, same result. Sanded and tried again 4 more times without success until I finally gave up.

I found a guy locally that does some really nice airbrush work, and he was kind enough to fix my problem, remove the paint and add a fresh coat of paint and clear coat. I will post pictures of the newly painted panels when I get them back this weekend.

If any of you are thinking of adding custom graphics to your cases, here is his info:

The custom decals have arrived!
The size of this is about 40” x 40”

These match the classic stunt suit he used to wear during jumps

Handlebars!! love it. It would be sweet if the grip was functional and twists, you could use it to power on the PC. Or just utilize one of the brake levers. Smile

That is indeed the plan!
The throttle does twist, and the break lever has an internal switch for the break-lights, which I will use to power on the PC Very Happy

Oh even better that it's already equipped with a switch. less work on your part!

Only thing that's missing now is a row of buses lol
