This was my First PDX and it was incredible. I had a great time from beginning to the end. I'm going to steal some of the format that's already been used. Sorry for plagiarizing some of your stuff Bug.

HUGE thanks to Guppy for putting on the scavenger hunt that was the most fun I had at the LAN.

Thanks to:
- tourney admins
- the network staff
- the security staff
- the help desk
- the attendees for making a good community
- the sponsors for the sweet giveaways

Best parts of the LAN:
- The Team [TB] scout bat fight that was an actual tourney match.
- scavenger hunt. Loved that it was during the Poker Tourney so all of us who couldn't get in had something to do that was just as much fun if not more.
- seeing Rod win the case mod contest. TRS-80 baby.
- Brent eating the vegimite, god that was disgusting.
- staff vs attendee TF2. I actually got to play the entire game with a bunch of my clan mates and it was awesome.

Worst part:
- waiting for our first match for the TF2 tourney, we got a first round bye so we ended up getting to the LAN at 10 to play in the tourney and didn't end up playing until 3 hours later.
- network/internet hiccups (LAN was only down a few times, but it was during tourneys. Internet connection was great after the troublemaker was taken care of)
- That dude who sat beside Brent and never thanked him for the video card he got for just sitting next to Brent. What a jerk.
- Guy who daisy chained surge protectors and took down the switch on our table during tourney play. Boo to you sir.

Overall I'm amazed at how smooth this event went with that many people there. Thank You Vector and all the staff I had a great time. I won't be able to make 12 but I'm looking forward to 13 and beyond.

Not sure how that happened but I apologize as it was probably my fault one way or another since I am the one who originally bought 17 of the 24 seats at that table . . . .Rod and I both have half of table 13 next time so I will work with him to make sure we have things plugged in correctly.

As I said before, I hope we can work together to keep the yelling profanties to a minimum (guys down from you I think were the culprits or maybe over a table?). I mean when kids are around only. Or senior citizens Wink

For David from Palit . . . I have only one thing to say . . . .Fire For Effect . . .errr, wait. Make that check fire. LOL.

the forums are awesome, BUT were you really impressed? You could always tell the company, although the reps may look at our forums, their bosses don't always. I was really impressed by a few people this LAN, as well as very pleased that some new companies took the time to look into us as a community. So I sent out a few emails

Antec: comments@antec.com

Edge Acoustics: contact@edgeacoustics.com

nVidia: made it difficult to find on their site

Patriot: marketing@patriotmem.com

Palit: sales@palitmultimedia.com (I chose the closest one I thought)

Tagan: service@tagan.com

Intel: Only has a web form

Those are teh ones that I could find, NO I did not write to all of them, but as for the ones that I wrote to, so far I've received a response from Antec, in fact, I received one from them in under two hours, and really wanted to share the result. We didn't win anything from them, but mentioned how helpful it was being able to poke and prod at the case that we're going to purchase next, and told them how awesome Dave is as a guy, and I got this response:

"Azurell,

Thank you for taking the time to send in a comment about your interaction with our employee.
It's not often that people take the time to do so and it is rarer still when the comments are positive.
Your comment has been shared with David T. aka "Antec Dave" and he has received an "atta boy" from the management team here at Antec.
I too feel that Dave does a fantastic job representing Antec and building good will with 'the community'. He is a valuable asset to our team,

I hope PDXLAN 11 was a success (as they generally are) and hope you enjoy your new P-180 case!

Best regards,
Eric"

I thought that I should share this with the community, the quick response astounded me. It's worth the extra effort sometimes to make sure that people are aware of how much we appreciate what they do.

As this was my first LAN too, it was a great experience and an event that overcame my pre-expectations. Comparing to the other LANs I have read about, PDX11 surely had a lighthearted atmosphere.
I do wish there wasn't so much WoWing going on so that there would've been even more LAN game interaction throughout. But nothing anyone can do much about. :[

Loved the whiteboard, the drink/food offers (Brawndo and pizza), and the side activities such as dodgeball and scavenger hunt (although I did not participate in either of those).
I also want to mention the volunteers were awesome and courteous.

I'm already looking forward to attending PDX12 in July! :]

Thanks

I'd like to throw out some thanks and some comments myself.

I want to thank all the people that came because without you all and your interest in any and all things computer a LAN party would be, um, ghey.

Next comes Vector and Demented and staff.

I've been to over 60 LAN parties all over the country in my time and I'd like to be very clear about this- PDXLAN is simply the best LAN party that has ever existed anywhere and at any time. Flat out.

I wish I could explain everything that Vector et al go through to put this thing on. Personality conflicts, scheduling, money, time (both regular time and family time) and many other sacrifices that NONE of us are aware of.

Of course I saw plenty of attendees that were there without a penny to their name or that drove 1,000 miles or that drove any amount over 100 miles to play games and horse around with crazy contests and listen to marketing people prattle on about our products.

So I'll just thank you all for making the event happen. I am just as privileged as all of you to have been there and I won't soon forget the experience.

But I could say that about ANY PDXLAN.

Azurell- that's pretty great you posted all those email addresses. I'm familiar with them and you seem to have gotten them right. I would add a note of caution to those who want to use them, though. If you think no one reads that stuff, you’re wrong.

I want to mention the Intel sponsor, Erik, specifically. Intel currently has one of the most amazing product lineups they’ve ever had and are doing quite well in the enthusiast market which has belonged to their competition for some time. He has every right to be excited. It is also possible to get a little too excited sometimes. He’s a competitive guy. He’s does all his own mods and overclocking. He comes to every PDXLAN event and he has been sponsoring it FOREVER. Personally, I didn’t see anything wrong with what he was doing. Hell, at one of the raffle drawings I grabbed the mike and told the people in the back they sucked for not being up there. Does that make me a bad guy? Nope, just getting into the good LAN groove.

I encourage everyone to send in well written comments to the email addresses you see listed above here. But you should really think about what you put in there because it has the potential to have a negative effect PDXLAN and LAN parties in general. I’ve been explaining what LANs are about to corporate folks for almost 10 years and I’m here to tell you that only a few get it.

If you think I did a good job and represented Palit well, by all means, send an email to sales. If you think I was a jackass and don’t want Palit to come back, you’re free to say that as well. Before you do that though, I would appreciate the opportunity to hear what your opinion is and respond. Hey, maybe I did do something out of line and I’m just not aware of it. When you’re standing on a stage in front of 400 or so people that are all yelling and excited, it’s easy to lose perspective. So I hope those of you that weren’t happy with what Intel did would take the time to fix it at the source before going over his head. I’m here to say that Erik is a great guy and (especially all the sponsoring he’s done of PDX) deserves the same respect you expect of him.

Beavis it was cool man it came up fast after the help desk was involved (big thanks to them again), it was just frustrating after we finally got into tourney play then we loose the network.

Anyways it was great sharing a table with you and I look forward to doing the same in the future since it's looking like Table 13 is going to be the DB/TB table.

I guess I'm a bit late, but I too wanted to thank all the attendees as well as Matt and the entire staff.

I haven't been to 60 LANs, at least I don't recall that many but I agree with David that PDXLANs are the best run LANs around. I wish every LAN I went last year was run by Matt, Demented et al.

In the end though the attendees are what brings Antec to PDXLAN, as a group you are among the best LAN attendees I've encountered. As a sponsor I feel appreciated when I'm there, and I'm impressed by the number of people genuinely interested in what I have to say about our products.

I also want to thank all of you who've taken the time to write into Antec. That's not something that happens all that often and I appreciate all the comments we get. And yes they do get read by my bosses, which is good because in the long run they'll be more likely to approve more LAN sponsorships.

For future reference it's ok to ask me questions when I'm playing a game on my laptop. If I'm in the booth I'm there to talk to you, so I play in single player mode (usually) so I can pause at the drop of a hat and talk or answer questions.

Overall PDX11 was great, heck this is the first LAN I've been to where I was proposed to by a member of the opposite sex. How cool is that? Laughing

I look forward to PDXLAN 12 and I sincerely hope my schedule will allow me to attend 12.5.

Indeed, Antec is one of the best companies for PSU's. I am loving this 1000watt quattro hehe. And my 500 HE.

PDXLAN was the first place I have heard of Tagan and FSP, and both are great companies, with great products, I hope they attend more PDXLAN's so I can see there new product lineup.

I'd like to add sales@bgears.com to the list. The case I won from them is great, and also just recently released. I've noticed a lot of sponsors seem to put their low sellers or older products out for prizes, and that's fine, free stuff is free stuff. but when a company puts out a brand new product recently released less than two weeks ago it's pretty cool in my book. Did i mention the case kicks ass?

I also forgot to mention that FSP group has a form on their site too...

As for bgears, I won a case from them too. It's broken, but awesome besides the silly little door issue. And that was certainly rad, I guess I was focusing more on giving the representatives praise then the additional thanks to all again for the prizes. That IS an awesome thing as well. I don't have time right now before work, but if we're slow again I'll try and find the emails for things like BAWLS and Brawndo and such, definitely worth the shout out!
