LANBox Exhaust fans Help Reply with quote
I bought the Thermaltake DUOrb CPU Cooler.
http://thermaltakeusa.com/Prod.....mp;ID=1748

I have this case.Thermaltake LANBox
http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/.....mp;ID=1428

I had to remove the 60mm exhaust fans to install the CPU cooler. I really need the exhaust fans because the case heats up. Though everything is operating around 40C to 45C according to speedfan, I'm seeing some jitteryness when playing games. I do not like that.

The outside of the case is where I am thinking about installing the fans. Though, the area for the fan is punched out towards the back some and not even with the back of the case. The fan doesnt spin because it is sitting directly on this punched out area. So I cant just screw it onto the back of the case directly. Also I don't know how to get power to the fan. I need to figure out a way to wire it up.

What the back looks like.

I have an idea for the wires to go in through the little plate above the PCI slots. But I dont know how I can make it look good. Or I could drill a hole in the back of the case for the wire to go through and put the molex back on once its inside.

Would I be able to use standoffs to hold the fan away from the case slightly and still be able to pull air out of the case?

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks for the help!

best way would be to dremel & file that out. You'll have a nice clean hole for the air to pass through and everything will mate flat. Second choice would be longer screws with some spacers or washers. Use foam around the edges to ensure the fan is pulling air from the case, not the gap.

Hmm, perhaps you might try replacing the 60 mm fans with a blower/squirrel cage fan like this one: http://www.pctoys.com/840556021148.html

Are you thinking on the inside of the case or outside? There really isnt much room inside.

I have yet to measure the exact width I have between the CPU cooler and the back of the case. I was thinking of getting some 10mm width fans and put them inside if I have the room.

Oh I was not thinking that the PSU is right above the heatsink. Does your PSU have a bottom or back mounted fan?
If it is back mounted you could stick the blower on the bottom of the PSU, if your PSU has a bottom mounted fan why is you case getting so hot? Laughing

What about the grill right above the PCI slots, doesn't look like anything is in the way and you could maybe fit an 80 mm fan there...

The PSU is right above the cooler. I currently have it upside down though so the 14 CM fan in the PSU pulls air from the top (outside air) rather than just above the CPU cooler. I could try flipping it over and see if it helps any.

The grill above the PCI slots is for another 60 MM fan. I have one installed there.

I'm also going to check my paste to make sure its even and the right thickness. The proc might be getting too hot because of that too.

Yeah 40 to 45 is not all that hot, so I wouldn't worry too much, but definitely flip the PSU, they can take the heat and it should help exhaust the case quite a bit better I would think.

I flipped over the power supply so it is exhausting the hot air from the CPU cooler into the power supply and out the back. The case is much cooler. And the CPU is idling around 38-40C. So not too bad. The power supply is getting rather warm though since all the heat is going though it. I dont know the temp because there is no sensor there.
