We’ve seen in the media a few isolated incidents giving video gamers a bad name, and we decided to use our event to help raise awareness for charities. Last event we raised over 2 tons of food for the Oregon Food Bank during the Christmas season. This event we wanted to do something focused around children.
Playing an online game, we asked people we play with for suggestions. One lady spoke up about Smile Train. We then researched it, saw how so much of the money is given directly to the people intended rather than huge overhead costs, and made the pick.
We ran a raffle at our event. We had $5,000 in prizes donated from sponsors like Intel, Nvidia, Asus, DangerDen, Crucial, iZ3d and more. We sold tickets for $5.00 each and then raffled off the prizes. The $8,640 you now have is a result of video gamers that don’t have all that much, giving to a charity that more than deserves it.
We are truly in awe that we as a community have changed / will change the lives of 35 children.

PDXLAN 16.5 will be this November. If you have not yet been to a .5 LAN you are in for a real treat if you decide to come. In a .5 LAN there are no presentations, no huge booths, just pure gaming with the staff. We’ll have fun unofficial tournaments (Starcraft 2 anyone?!), we’ll have tons of prizes, and most of all – we will have a ton of fun. Most attendees that go to a PDXLAN .5 agree that they are more fun than the main event. Just because it is smaller, don’t think that means less fun or prizes. In fact last time over 250 people won something at a 340 person LAN… that’s insane!

PDXLAN 17 will again have 536 seats – and 36 of those are “Leet Seats” with 2x power, 4 feet of space, bring your own chair, and 3 raffle tickets. If you have not yet gotten your PDXLAN 17 tickets, do it soon – PDXLAN 17 will sell out just as PDXLAN 16 did – so be sure to get your tickets quick!

Wow – what an awesome event! I have to say that PDXLAN 16 is probably my favorite event. There was so much happening. From Dodge ball to tournaments. From charity giving to presentations – this event had it all.
PDXLAN 16 wouldn’t have been such a success without you the attendees. Really a LAN is made up of those who attend – and those people decide whether It will be fun or not. By the looks of things, you guys came to party, and party hard you did.
Thank you also to the staff – through your hard work the event came together and stayed together. Thanks to the volunteers who helped clean up and set up. Thanks to Rod for the donation of something to help keep our server running. Thanks everyone.

I heard there is a LAN Party this Friday!! WOOT!!!
Here are things you REALLY need to know if you will be an attendee this time..
5. Please have your ID and waiver at Registration. There may not be copies of the waiver when you arrive, so don't rely on us to print it.
6. This LAN more than ANY OTHER PDXLAN will have a huge strain on power. For this reason we WILL be spot checking monitors, and taking note of power supplies if your circuit goes down. We'll only care about the power supply if 6 or less people pop a circuit. If it is 7 people or more, then someone just didn't plug in right. For this reason, be sure to plug in correctly so the staff don't turn red and steam at the ears.
7. Charity Raffle. Tickets will be $5.00 each, and you can win a system valued at $5,000!! Be sure to ask your friends at work / family if they would like tickets! You can be their proxy at the LAN - buy tickets for them, and if they win, give it to them. PLEASE PLEASE ask your co-workers and family. The 500 of us can't hit 10k in donations without their help!
8.The event opens at 2pm for the first time ever. You can bring in your computers at that time! Because of this, the event will be on strict lockdown to anyone who is not staff or who is not a booth sponsor until 2pm. Exceptions will not be made, please don't make us say no to you. The staff needs this time to concentrate and get things working without having to worry about a silly thing like being social. (Hey, its hard work for geeks to be social)
9. Staff like Twizzler Bites, Potato chips, and Dem likes Grande Sugar Free Vanilla Lattes with 1%. - If you forget your waiver / ID, you better have a bribe. Or, if you want to be nice ;)

Alright - there are SO many people (almost 100) that want into PDXLAN 16 that we opended up what used to be the tournament area for another 36 seats. These seats are being sold as "PDXLAN 16.1" and will operate on its own, independent registration.
This means that there will be no transfers from main seating, to these seats. These tickets will be sold the same way the others were sold, first come, first served. I will be emailing this all out in the next day or so to all the non-paid people.
Tickets are priced at 69.00 each (Like the last 100 of PDXLAN 16), and come with 1 raffle ticket per seat. Everything will be the same in respect to participation in the LAN, network, internet, etc. Think of it this way, PDXLAN 16 is 536 people.
